Vegas8 and Vista
Posted by Goodone on September 18, 2007 at 6:26 pmI want to thank you all for all the education. I am in the process of ordering a new system and was wondering how many of you are currently running vista. I have, and have been using Vegas6 on win xp pro with no issues, and have received the offer to upgrade and have been going in circles on the issue of what OS to go with.
Again Thank you all for your insights.

September 18, 2007 at 7:42 pmForget about Vista, it is a pain in the you know where for most people. In reality Vista is beta software, as is most Microsoft software on release. Wait until SP1 comes out in early 2008. Stay with XP for now.
In reality there is no compelling, or not so compelling reason to upgrade to Vista. It doesn’t give you anything at all of value, and it is a huge pain for a lot of people. Why would you upgrade to something that gives you nothing at all, but causes a lot of grief in most cases?

September 19, 2007 at 6:41 pmI just bought a new laptop, and ordered Vista Business 64 separately (cheaper). Decided to go the vista route, since been a while since launch / why not get it / etc?
result: smoothest install of windows yet, for me. flawless. Immediate web access via router too, without touching any settings.
installed V8 trial, and working flawlessly too.I like. no grief yet. 🙂 Is not beta any more IMHO

September 19, 2007 at 10:03 pmDon’t worry, you got lucky. Vista at the current time is a pain in the neck for most people. Beta until January.

September 22, 2007 at 7:07 pmJust curious…what laptop did you get and what kind of video card is with it? I’m buying my hubby a new laptop within the next week or so and am considering an Asus G2S-B1 but it has Vista vs the more expensive one that has Vista Ultimate. Not sure what will be “easiest” for my hubby to use with his video editing which is what this particular laptop will be confined to doing. He’s not patient with computer problems….has Vegas 6 and will be using it for HD (from his new Canon HD camcorder.) Glad you found it had no problems.

September 22, 2007 at 7:25 pma Danish brand: Zepto – http://www.zepto.com
I assume they don’t sell in the US or Canada yet.he won’t need Ultimate – that’s a waste of money. I bought Business edition due to the sync, encryption and networking extras, but most people seem quite happy with Home Premium.
my vid card is an Nvidia 8600 GT 512MB. Any vid card will be good for vegas, so is not an issue. I wanted the extra grunt for After Effects rendering.

March 5, 2008 at 10:45 pmHi,
Just saw your Vista 64 bit and Vegas 8 comments. How are you getting along with this combination now that several months have passed?I’m building a new computer and am tempted to go Vista 64… What do you think?

March 5, 2008 at 10:51 pmwell, only real hassle for me was initial problem with DVDA not wanting to open / run. Turned out (purely by trial and error) that DEP had to be disabled for DVDA, then it worked fine.
Would I use vista64 if I had to build another machine right now? Sure. No reason to use XP (which is on my other 2 machines)
🙂
