damn thats what I get for thinking with a tired brain, sorry you are correct -

more and more drives are coming with internal sata connections. As a result, cases fail A LOT (maxtor, seagate I’m look at you) and it’s not really easy to find a single drive fw case with an internal sata set up at the local fry’s, but this set up (or more specifically the other sata/ide connector) can help get a project back on track for a day or 2, or recover a drive.

this was already answered, yes it’s doable, but not really, if you have to do this, make sure your project file is on your computer it will help the speed, and dont touch anything better than, dv, or multiple streams.

this is a biiiig no no, if you HAVE to use this drive, don’t looks to use it for more than a few weeks, don’t fill her up beyond a few dozen gigs, and keep your media files over 2gigs. Your files WILL, not maybe, not sometimes they do, but WILL corrupt if they are too large, or you are calling on them a lot. use mac os extended (not journaled). i work in my colleges digital lab, and no matter how many times I say it, I see about a dozen unformatted or improperly formatted drive (especially fat 32) have issue after issue. In fact I check every time I help some one, just in case.
I hate to be so negative, but such is life. It’s a scary world, and keeping your drives formatted correctly is just one thing to keep your life a little bit happier.

what you do is set up your leaf particle layer in an image sequence, the first frame has an orange leaf, the second a purple, the third a yellow, etc. for more info see some of andrew kramers recent tutorials.

don’t know if this helps, a good friend of mine just set up a post production facility (look for their work in upcoming scifi channel and history channel shows) they set up a bunch of pc’s with 64 bit using combustion, says it runs like butter, rendering is a dream, and dealing with 3d in 3ds max is pretty silly it’s so quick. Don’t know if this helps, but it definitly helps with some apps.
