October 21, 2007 at 11:46 pmI was running x64, but it turned out worse. AE used to crash and such, but that could have been a fault of wrong drivers or so.
You will benefit from ability to use more ram since x32 only allows 2GB to be used in the system if i’m not wrong.
AE CS3 by itself is a x32 app, but I know theres some smart tool to tewak it to use all x64 power available, but I’m not sure.
There is a post or an article somewhere here on the cow that explains everything about ram and x32 vs x64. Use the search bar.
Cheers

October 22, 2007 at 2:58 amdon’t know if this helps, a good friend of mine just set up a post production facility (look for their work in upcoming scifi channel and history channel shows) they set up a bunch of pc’s with 64 bit using combustion, says it runs like butter, rendering is a dream, and dealing with 3d in 3ds max is pretty silly it’s so quick. Don’t know if this helps, but it definitly helps with some apps.

October 22, 2007 at 9:05 am32 bit editions of Windows can run max 3GB ram, but generally people dont go above 2GB because its not price effective. ram runs best when its in parallel (ie 2 sticks of 1GB ram runs only fractionally worse than 1 stick of 2GB and 1 stick of 1GB).
personally I run Windows XP 64 bit because I wanted 8GB of ram. definately intrested to hear any more info on this tool for AE in 64 bit environment.

October 22, 2007 at 6:54 pmI’m running multiple workstations (at work and at home) three are dual dual-core Xeons with 4GB of RAM on XP Pro (32 Bit), Two are dual quad-core Xeons with 4GB of RAM, one 32 Bit one 64 Bit… the dual quad-core machine on 64 Bit XP is noticeably snappier in AE and WAY faster in Cinema 4D (especially for rendering and previews). IMHO, 64 Bit XP is worth it just for the ability to add more RAM. As budget becomes available, I plan to move all of these machines to 64 Bit XP and max out the RAM.
I hope this helps.
Thanks,
Shawn

October 23, 2007 at 7:29 pmI’m running the entire suite, although I only use AE, Premiere, PhotoShop and Illustrator on a regular basis. Those apps (plus Cinema 4D) are all solid. The only thing you really have to be careful about is drivers. 🙂
Thanks,
Shawn
