thought I’d like to see a clip or still there are several ways I think you could do this. 1 is with a displacement map and a CC masked adjustment layer. The other, and easier in my opinion would be with a 3d app. the texture and surface abilities of an app like cinema 4d could do this in much less time than anything created in AE

I just want you to know, that 3 hours is a blessing in my book. I’ve done 6 min videos that take 16 hours to render with no “hardcore” effects, no blurs, and pre keyed greenscreen footage.

I think using PS or AI would have helped your over all render times though. As the constantly rasterize will extrapolate the pixels needed per frame. and not use more than needed

a lot has been said about experience, i’m in a good position to help you with info. Not only do I help run a FULL final cut lab (actually 3) with 90+ seats, as well as about 8 specialized rooms, for editing, I’m also a student at the place these labs are run. We have been struggling with avid about getting licensing, system support and enough seats to be useful with media composer. It’s strange, We went from having a base volume license with apple to a FULL upgrade support license in under 15 minutes on the phone with our rep from apple. I spent twice that three times in a row waiting for some one to pick up from avid.

We can give you numbers, we can give you data and facts and 1/3 this, 2/3 that 800,000 here 1,000,000 there. And yes, it’s very impressive as FCP is very easy to use and integrate into multi tasking machines that are for general student population not just students in 2 classes a day. But what really matters to me, is when the shit (excuse the language) hits the fan, and computers stop working, or a new version come out. How long, and how much is it going to take to get avid up to the current level. With my experience dealing with the ‘educational reps’ from both companies, as well as a dozen other top companies in our field. Apple is up there as the best. The only other companies that have ever been so quick to help are promax and newteck.

if you want to contact me for more feel free to do so.

ok, not sure if this will work but one option would be pic wiping your masks shape property.

to do this first create a mask, (the original/non keyframed mask) and dup it to all your layers. So they are all at frame 1 (or your starting frame) with this done. option click the mask shape from one the the ‘child’ masks (no need to fully dupe any of them yet, since we are just testing here) and when that is done and you get your expressions box. Use the pic whip now visible and drag it up to the original ‘parent’ masks. this might work. don’t know for sure, but worth a try.

[Bluriie] “Is this the case for all compositing programs?”
combustion works nearly flawlessly with 3ds max, I just wish 3dsmax worked for macs.
