Noise When Using Keyligh
Posted by Eric Goldstein on November 1, 2007 at 10:13 pmHi,
I’m using Keylight on a greenscreen. They key is generally good, but I’m getting noise in the shadows. I’ve tried various settings, but can’t get rid of it. Any suggestions?
Thanks,
Eric

November 1, 2007 at 11:07 pmIn the mask settings, how are your black clip (and white clip) settings …? You can check them of course by selecting mask rather than final output in the display drop-down ..

November 1, 2007 at 11:39 pmHi Mike,
I have carefully checked my black and white clip settings while viewing the matte – but can’t eliminate this noise in the shadows.

November 2, 2007 at 12:22 amcheck your screen gain. Keylight can add a lot of grain if you let it

November 2, 2007 at 2:55 amtry turning it down a touch, also (don’t have it infront of me so I don’t remember the name) but the other adjustment setting up there with screen gain can be tweaked. THough the default is usually suitable there is a reason you can turn it down, as well as up.

November 2, 2007 at 2:28 pmWhat’s the original format of the video?
If you check it on a scope, what do the red and blue channels look like in those areas?
I don’t do much chromakeying in AE these days and my personal experience with Keylight has always been killer even with DV. But all of my high end keying in AE has required careful masking and application of various assistant filters to copies of the key layer. Matte chokers, spill suppressors, masking, hole patches, light wrap, all that stuff.
