Thanks guys, figured it out. I wanted to track the whole mask – I have a television set I’m putting footage into. I’ve started using solids with the mask layer and using those as my stencil….works more like I wanted it to.

I can’t quote the hardware reason, but the gen1 Macbooks could only use 3 GB. However you CAN put in 4GB, and while it can only use 3GB, there is supposed to be a slight memory performance boost since it can interleave the chips.

I would have told them the Viper was child’s play. They should have been shooting Red @ 2k for webclips! Amateurs these days….

I’ve had that happen to us too….I jut don’t get it.

The new MBP will either match or outrun your G5 for most FCP stuff. Load it up with 4 GB ram and it’s golden.

But you could also get a bigger, badder desktop for the same price. That’d be my choice if backed into a corner.

When I asked some FCP “gurus” at a recent tradeshow if there were any improvements to Media Manager…. they said “Uh, look! We’ve included Color for free!”

POS = Media Manager. It’s shameful.

You can’t edit with Avid DV, etc… files natively in FCP. Open them in QT player and export as regular DV files.

Don’t have 6 yet, but sounds like the fields are being displayed out of order? I’ve seen this when a Flame captured footage on Field 1 when it should have been capturing 2. The slightest, hard to nail down stuttering…. you think you’re crazy at first, but it’s there.

I’m going to go with the 15″ with 2GB ram

    1) going to buy cheaper RAM later. Apple is really expensive

    2) we have a 17″, and sometimes it’s just a little too big. Plus cramming that many pixels onto that size screen doesn’t really give you much more real estate… because everything will be SO small. Rather plug in my Cinema display

    3) if I were you, I’d never use the internal for media. Unless it’s an emergency. Laptop HD’s are notoriously prone to failure when they get beat on.

Nope. You’re best off just using AE since you already own and know it. I have the Silhouette FX plugins for FCP, which are great for roto, but it’s kinda 6’s at that point.
