because OUT on an EDL refers to the frame AFTER where FCP notes it as the frame you’re currently on. Just a nomenclature difference…. and confusing as heck until I figured it out.

….can you even get a Quad still? I’m assuming you mean the G5 Quad…. not a 4 core Intel? I would say it’s not even worth selling a Dual G5 for a Quad at this point – might as well spend money on a 4 year workhorse.

He’s making TWICE what I do… and asked one day, while pointing to the VCR in the edit bay, “Is that the Digibeta? How do I connect it to the Avid?” It’s frustrating as hell. Yeah, i make salary and don’t need to worry about not being booked for a couple weeks at a time, but this kid barely know his ass from a G5 in the ground.
it blows my mind how nontechnical people are in this business… and how they manage to still make money

Well you got that Kernal Panic and had to shut down via power button. It’s highly possible that the new RAM had a hiccup and caused the system to crash…perhaps when the HD was accessing data and it fried the boot sectors…. Or when you were forced to power down the CPU maybe the hard drive was stuck in some search mode, etc…. and then it got fried when the box powered off.

Put the old RAM in
Put in you Tiger/Panther/Battlecat install disc and startup G5 holding down C
When the installer comes up, ignore it, thereshould be an option in the top menus to select boot drive
hopefully your hard drive will appear in that menu, and you can restart and it should get fixed

So I decided to save any experimentation… I just conformed the whole thing in 1080 and will downcovert the files to 24fps SD for finishing.

Well maybe I was just psyching myself out… I’ve run some test with AE7 project files at it’s pretty much the same speed as before. But I bet now my Macbook Pro will smoke this aging G5

Thanks…. well that’s a pain in the butt. The whole idea behind editing at home on the latop is so I don’t need all the studio gear!

I kinda know where you’re coming from Bogie. Personally I wish the apple team would spend more time improving Final Cut rather than adding all these other apps. I know it called “studio” – but the improvements from 5.1.4 to 6 are pretty much just a light wax job, not a clay bar
