FCP and v-sync on Macbook Pro
Is anyone else having v-sync problems with their Macbook Pro’s and FCP? I’ve got a brand new macbook, been editing some DVCPRO-HD/720/23.98 at home, and getting lots of tearing/popping on my 23″ apple cinema display (digital cinema desktop display… both normal and full screen). I also get the tearing with just the 15″ and full screen display mode. Very hard to edit. and standard def too.
HOWEVER quicktime player will “present movie” and it’s rock solid.
I’m going to guess it’s a problem with the NVIDIA drivers and FCP not playing well?

I’ve had the same problem (same MBPro config as well); however, the video always plays well on an external monitor (either HDV deck monitor or CRT hooked up through DV camera. I chalked it down to a bug in the video card, perhaps.

Thanks…. well that’s a pain in the butt. The whole idea behind editing at home on the latop is so I don’t need all the studio gear!

DIGITAL CINEMA PREVIEW is a low res PROXIE image…just something you can look at full screen. The quality isn’t 100%, because it needs processor power to play back the footage. The TEARING you are seeing is the interlacing.
If you use the Matrox MXO, you don’t see this. The MXO components take the brunt of the processing and get you a nice clean image. But, that is the STUDIO GEAR you were hoping to avoid.
And you don’t need the studio gear…you can edit without the big preview screen. Or you can put up with the limitations. Or you can get the gear to do it properly. Up to you.
