I have tried different cards, different cards with different chipsets, different every thing. And have still not been able to come up with a solution. I eventually got a FW800 Express card so that I could keep my deck and my drives on different buses. That has worked fine for me, so I don’t see how it could be the computer.

I believe you have to export a XML file from iMovie for FCP 6 to import it.

I have had similer issues when using esata cards on my MBP. Does the same thing happen when they are hooked up via FireWire 800.

You don’t have to install and update FCS1 before installing FCS2.

When you start installing FCS2 it will just ask you for the SN from FCS1.

Better yet put your old hard drive into a FireWire enclosure boot off of that drive insall carbon copy cloner and clone the old drive to the new. That way the new drive is exactly like the old just bigger.

H264 id not an editing codec, therefor FCP cannot edit H264 natively.

What are your time line settings?

Edit in a proper editing format then export a H264 file.

To me it sounds like these are HIS clients and that you are acting as a contract employee. As an employee you don’t own the project files he does.

They are his clients and he is the one thet they will be going to for any changes. And let’s face it some changes can be done in less time then it would take for him to call you.

Use Deep Freeze.

Its the ONLY way to keep things in line when you are not the one sitting at the computer.
Students don’t understand or care that the changes that they make will cause you problems, and some times they do it just for kicks because they know it does cause you problems.

Deep Freeze makes it a easy as restarting the computer to foil the plans of the evil little ones.

I’ve even seen Deep Freeze used at Apple Stores, and those computers get jacked with more then any computer you will ever have in your lab.
