If I had an employee that was putting in half the effort because he felt that he was only getting payed half of what he should, that would tell me that the employee is definitely NOT worth what he thinks he is worth.

iMove – NO – it does not record to a FCP friendly editing format, you will have to do lots of renderingYou can capture directly to FCP, but that will require having 3 separate computers one for each camera.
The two best solutions I see are to rent some fire store drives and record directly to those then copy the footage to your media drive and edit, or feed all three cameras into a live video switcher, connect a deck to the output of the video switcher, and do the whole thing live. Yes renting a live video switcher may cost some money, but it sure is a lot cheeper and easier then the cost of editing 10 hours of footage from 3 cameras.

Your going to need to take it into your local Apple Store and have it looked at. Liquid can damage so many components that there is really nothig that anyone can do online.

I recomend getting an esata express card and conecting your media drives via esata. Besides keeping your camera/deck on a compleatly seperate bus on the computer from your media drives, esata is much faster then FireWire.

Sorry Shane I guess I should have been a bit more descriptive, it would not be the problem if it was converted into the a proper FCP editing format.
He never actually said what he converted them to, all he said was that he covered them with Sorensen 3.

Macs being in a fight with sony NO, any computer having issues with the poor recording format used by those cameras YES.

The most common thing that causes dropped frames is using hard drives that are not fast enough, or not connected to the computer via a connection that can handle the high data rates of video.
If you converted then to a vary high data rate format then yes that could be the issue.
What format exactly did you convert them to? You say mov but mov is just a wrapper for numerous codecs of video.

As long as they are giving you the original disks, original documentation with original serial numbers then its fine.
As long as you do that then there is no legal problems, unlike the time a former employer of mine bought a used computer because it came with a lot of software. When the computer was delivered and there were absolutely no software disks at all with it (everything was already installed) did I tell the boss he didn’t have legal copies of that software with out the install disks and SN. He didn’t seem to care, but then again he was never a vary honest man.
Don’t give the person any money until you all all the original install disks, documentation and serial numbers.

Not recommended, some apps will work fine running from any drive, but others (and this includes most pro level apps) MUST be run from the system drive.

That and when activating some applications it notes the hardware ID of your computer (ie the MAC Address) and writes this into the file that tells the computer the program is registered. So if you were to boot from your drive you would have to re activate a lot of programs. As an example of this I had the logic board replaced on my computer and had to re activate much of my pro software including FCP.

Take your system with you. The new 17″ MBP will be a workhorse when you max it out with 8GB of ram. Together with a Matrox MXO and a accompanying display and you can do color work also.
