MBP + Final Cut Pro = Frame Drop??

In which kind of .mov had you converted the .mpg’s?
Most of the people around use MPGStreamclip for this kind of transcoding.
The codec that can extrant the whole quality from an .mpg is 8b Unc but may be a problem because the files size. Transcpde regarding the specs of your final delivery format.

Macs being in a fight with sony NO, any computer having issues with the poor recording format used by those cameras YES.

I would bet it is NOT what is causing dropped frames.

The most common thing that causes dropped frames is using hard drives that are not fast enough, or not connected to the computer via a connection that can handle the high data rates of video.

If you converted then to a vary high data rate format then yes that could be the issue.

What format exactly did you convert them to? You say mov but mov is just a wrapper for numerous codecs of video.

I’ll beg to differ. DVD format converted to MPG converted to Sorenson 3…yeah, that’s an issue. Sorenson 3 is NOT an editing codec. Follow Raf’s advice and use MPEG Streamclip to encode the footage as something else…like DV/NTSC or DV50. Something you find in the EASY SETUPS of FCP. Anything else will cause issues.

Sorry Shane I guess I should have been a bit more descriptive, it would not be the problem if it was converted into the a proper FCP editing format.

He never actually said what he converted them to, all he said was that he covered them with Sorensen 3.
