i, like grame, do not have (though i want) an xlh1, but one thing id suggest to look at is what is your computer reading the xlh1 as? if it thinks your camera is say an xl2 or worse your standard firewire ntsc deck

if this is so, the xlh1 will respond by setting itself to best suit this “guestimation”

you wouldn’t think fianl cut would do that, i mean it’s come so far, and yet, itm kinda hasn’t. it’s a grief that i recently herd about in a review of a book, and it was a subject that made the author(of the review) sad to find that there really is no way

just set it to default or as a favorite, and remember the short cut, or program your multibutton mouse or shuttle wheel (i did this for color correction and i think audio crossfade) it’s a pain but it will speed you up alot, though a multiople eddit efffect would be awsome but not yet…maybe in 6?

from experiences with computers and drives and programs, you gotta start from scratch especially with macs, when u install new drivers, start from scratch, go back and install you prgrams and thenall your cards and device drivers, don’t just expect them to all work, make it as if your buying a brand new system adn u just bought all your cards, plugins etc. and ya it sucks but its kinda what needs to happen

March 26, 2006 at 10:42 am in reply to: Capture / pre-roll problem, help please !

capture now, just do capture now and begin playing,

there are a few reason forpreroll, and one of those is to get the tape up to speed, so if there are isues with your tape (little min dv’s not so much but larger hd tape etc get troublesome)

but capture now will basicly let you capture anything rolling through your heads, so just do capture now, and then press play on your tape deck.

well i don’t notice them moving “out” if you mean there general animation, im sure it’s just kinda taking the same image and moving them along a curved plane, then eventually ringing the end up (they may not have done a curve dplane but one very long red solid, and the little ropes, and spherized it on 1 axis, (spherized the whole precomp) then as it comes to the end you have your edditor and you scale him up, or place him at the back of teh comp and as it comes closer to your camera it grows.

it’s not to bad, but i may be looking at the wrong add, or whatever so give us more info on what ur looking at

March 26, 2006 at 9:07 am in reply to: Need a brief connect the dots on Multicam and Timecode

well in theory, if you have your cameras, and you know where tehy are all about to start, or you can get recpording even 5 seconds before the actors come on, yell out, begin recording (camera opps begin recording) and then do a single clap, or 1 loud something, run across stage and do 5 jumping jacks for a timing aspect, or what ever toots your horn, the problem is tape switching, fortunatly thers intermission, adn if your filming, there may be allowance to let you on stage at intermission.

the wissle is interesting,, would it pick up? i don’t know but thats an awsome idea

ya same, (now that we’re slightly off topic) i like the metal image effect, but it’s not clean enough sometimes the edges come up black, and it’s kinda funky sometimes, i like it, and it’s so close for a title sequence im working on (not for a client, though i could use the money) i think i need to give it more time maybe i dunno., bloomk is awsome ait’s just something you gotta go and fiddle with and find your own needs and uses

[walter biscardi] “Also, in After Effects, just render to the DV codec if you’re finishing to DV. It’s a waste of time to render in animation and then have FCP re-render the thing down to DV. You’ll get a cleaner end product letting After Effects create the DV file.”

there’s the response, many of us who use both alot, have been noticing this, so people are trying many differnt things, these are our findings, it seems to be a little more partial per person.

heres a cool tutorial for color correcting in a.e.

how did you export it from a.e. as an animaton, or did you try and save time and export as matching footage so you wouldn’t have to re render in finalcut. theres a debat some way down in the a.e. forum about quality when exporting and re rendering vs exporting and dropping straight in. render out as an animation or high quality q-time, and re render in a.e.

    hope this helps
