Activity Forums Apple Final Cut Pro Legacy Cross Disolve

  • Posted by Mike Cornett on March 26, 2006 at 5:29 pm

Sorry this simple question. I did a search on the forum and found nothing.

How do I add multiple cross disolves to a sequence with a click or two. I have a montage and I know on an Avid it’s very easy. Within the disolve dialogue box is a check box for “apply disolve in to out”.

I can’t image that FCP would leave this feature out or a way to do it as easily.

Thanks for keeping my carpal tunnel in check!

When I need to apply an effect to multiple edits I set the transition to default. r-click in browser. Then r-click in timeline between clips and apply default. It can be kind of slow if you have a ton of cuts.

you wouldn’t think fianl cut would do that, i mean it’s come so far, and yet, itm kinda hasn’t. it’s a grief that i recently herd about in a review of a book, and it was a subject that made the author(of the review) sad to find that there really is no way

just set it to default or as a favorite, and remember the short cut, or program your multibutton mouse or shuttle wheel (i did this for color correction and i think audio crossfade) it’s a pain but it will speed you up alot, though a multiople eddit efffect would be awsome but not yet…maybe in 6?

Try this on a copy of your timeline, as it usually takes a couple tries to get the hang of it.

First, you have to set the transition you want applied to all your clips to be your default transition.

Then, select the clips you want via your favorite selection method. Grab that section of clips and drag it to the Canvas and hover over the Canvas window. Options will pop up, Insert, Overwrite, etc. Drop the whole shebang over “Overwrite with Transition”.

Make sure you have your in point set for the where the first clip starts. Actually, you may not need an in point at all. I haven’t done it in awhile, and I can’t remember for sure. Something to try…just make sure you don’t have an in point set somewhere ELSE in your timeline, that for sure will mess things up!

Try it a few times, it should start to make sense!

    Good luck

Create a new Sequence. Select the clips in the old sequence and drag them to the Canvas selecting overwrite or insert with transition. All of the clips will have the default transition applied. Be sure the tab for the new sequence is active and that you have enough head and tail on the clips for the transitions.

ok, well if it wasn’t for the idea’s of sexual harassment, asualt and the fact that im at this computer and your at yourse, i could kiss you debe.

and you just have to make sure that your player is set to th very begining of your selection. otherwise it will overwrite from where ever the player is at ino your timeline

see we learn something new every day

I wouldn’t press charges, Zander, but my husband might feel the need to bop ya in the nose!

Luckily, he rarely, if ever, falls victim to his urges to bop people in the nose!

Thanks for the tip. It does work and my wrist is SAVED!

I appreciate the help and insight.

It’s funny how Apple has hand picked all the great features that an Avid can do (makes it easier and/or better) and forgets the most basic.

    Cheers!

I don’t get what you mean.

This is not some workaround that we’ve discovered.

This is how FCP is designed to perform this function.

It IS a “feature” in FCP.
