    Hi,

I’m using a Sony DVW-M200P pal digibeta deck to capture uncompressed SD into FCP.
Deck control is set thru a Blackmagic Decklink HD Pro

Some clips dont have enough timecode at the head, so i want to lower the pre-roll from 3 to 1 or 2, but I cant change the setting in the Device Contol Panel Editor. I’m using the Blackmagic template, and tried duplicating it, but the duplicate also didnt allow this change. These Presets were NOT locked. I even tried just making a new Preset, but that didnt work. Maybe it has something to do with RS-422 control?

Anyway, how can I get around it?

    many thanks,

capture now, just do capture now and begin playing,

there are a few reason forpreroll, and one of those is to get the tape up to speed, so if there are isues with your tape (little min dv’s not so much but larger hd tape etc get troublesome)

but capture now will basicly let you capture anything rolling through your heads, so just do capture now, and then press play on your tape deck.

Try changing your pre roll under the
User Preferences>Editing>Preview Pre-roll pull down menu.
On my system this value is also used to determine the VTR pre-roll amount with a DigiBeta deck. No need to muck around in the presets this way. Witgh a Digibeta I can almost alwys get away with a 2 second pre-roll. Sometimes less if the shot is really tight. Otherwise, the capture now method will work as well…just a little less elegant. I usually also change the post-roll to a small amount for capturing when the shooter didn’t give me much heads or tails on a scene. This will prevent the system from rolling the VTR past the outpoint and through a time code break. Put it back to a longer value when you are done since it also affects your “play around” times as well.
