Yeah, check out the DVDSP forum, and also, check into getting a LaCie FastCoder. It’s a terrific hardware encoder, that you can now get for $75 bucks!

So I just got an X800XT to replace the 9800 Pro. I see very little difference. Maybe I’m expecting too much? I’ve got 2 20″ displays both running at 1680×1050. Plus, 4.5 Gigs of RAM under the hood (which we’ll be maxing out to 8 gigs in the coming months). I think the one thing I do notice is that if I run the flurry screensaver, I don’t see the screen being painted as much.

April 20, 2006 at 8:12 pm in reply to: Nesting benefits?

I’d like to 2nd the above comments. Though there are good reasons to nest, such as multilayer effects, nesting seems more trouble than it’s worth. Just yesterday I had a major problem because of nested sequences in a timeline (Time Ramping issues were also at fault) . If for whatever reason, you’re having a crazy amount of dropped frames on edit to tape, or print to video, I would export @ current settings a self-contained video and import it into it’s own project. This has saved us hours of headaches.

Ultra 2 looks great, too bad they don’t mention anywhere on their site that it’s a PC only program. Had me fooled with all their talk about working with FCP. What’s the point if it doesn’t work on a Mac?

I believe it. At some point soon, I’m going to go through my fonts and get rid of the ones that I never use…. which unfortunately, are quite a few of them.

April 17, 2006 at 8:00 pm in reply to: Applying Broadcast Safe Filter . . .

I like to go shot by shot with the 3-way Color Correct filter and bring my shots in legal that way. Then as an added precaution drop the broadcast safe filter as the last thing to a nested sequence. So far, I haven’t had anything bounced back (knocking on wood!)

I’ve had similar issues with both our systems. I’ve reinstalled twice on each system, and it’s still a little buggy. Although, we’ve not had trouble with it not opening, we’ve had trouble with, once it’s opened, you can’t edit or close it. You have to keep hitting the Window close button until it says close without saving changes. Then restart FCP, and it’ll work ok. I know a lot of people don’t like to work with Title 3D, but I love it, and I’ve gotten to the point where it’s an essential tool for me and I can work very fast with it. I hope the next version of FCP will have addressed it’s quirkiness.

Oh well. Hopefully the next update or version will have a fix. At least I’m not crazy!

If you have Photoshop CS, you don’t have to adjust image size. Go to Image>Pixel Aspect Ratio>Drag to D1/DV NTSC (0.9). Very easy and you can adjust the pixel aspect ratio all day long with need to ever adjust the actual image size.

If you have a ton of pics to do it to, then for sure use the batch method. What a time saver that is!
