February 14, 2006 at 5:58 am in reply to: Which is the best tutorial DVD for Vegas and architect, truthfullyI will agree that Gary Kliner’s work is very good. I am a point and shoot person who uses Vegas on a need to know basis for specific things (use media 100’s mostly).
Gary’s training tools are well done and to the point, subjects are easy to learn and pretty well organized. My only suggestion for my type of learning is to have an index card so i know which DVD to go to, but that’s my problem because I don’t sit down and learn everything at one time….
Gary also provides good service and stands behind his products…

David and Allen,
thanks for your information. The video is just a wedding, so I do not think it shuld be a problem with content.
The client did not indicate that they needed special formats either as they send DVD’s over (and they can watch them in their computers also.
I just thought i was ask here and see if i had the correct info, so… I might give them a PAL version just in case…I would assume I render the finished project as mpeg 2 video stream for PAL dvd architect and the audio as normal (AC3)
any settings that i should know about?
Thanks!!!

“That’s why I always double-check to make sure the AC3 is being used.”
Ed, how do i check that… thanks for your time!!!!
Thanks, Wayne

Wow… ED, you may be onto someting,
if memory serves me (less and less as I get older) I seem to get this when I “apply effects to” audio tracks (EQ) – or perhaps filter or open audio tracks (or copies of audio tracks) in the wave editor (coold edit 2K) or copy or duplicate tracks. which then vegas often makes a “copy” of the track
Is there any thing special I should do to my audio renders to make sure everything is “as it should be” – or anyting to prepare int the time line?? -perhaps prerender the audio???
Old habits are hard to break and I really needed to keep production up so I still relyed on much of my editing on media 100’s (for the sake of learning curve) but I’ve tried to use vegas more and more lately so I perhaps have the cart way ahead of the horse in terms of “jumping ahead” with procedures without clearly understanding what I’m doing. (the program is proving to have some really strong points)
Any insight on the fact that one “monkeys” with the audio tracks and then DVDA2 ends up having to recompress something – when I do render for DVD i usually take these steps: 1. select all 2. render mpeg2, and then the AC3 at -31 db as suggested.
thanks all!

December 28, 2005 at 4:38 pm in reply to: question about Scenalyzer live – Help Files????Ed,
As far as I know, the manual is just completed and not posted yet. Is there any way to provide it here on creative cow so people could download it? All i have is a 1.2 meg PDF file that was emailed directly from Andreas.
I have not had time to go through it but it has to be a huge improvement over the “point and shoot” method of trying to figure out how to use a software application.
Let me know how to help.

December 28, 2005 at 1:33 pm in reply to: question about Scenalyzer live – Help Files????Andreas Winter from Scenalyzer just this minute sent me a very fast reply to a web inquiry .
they have just finished a help manual which i am downloading now.
I’m sure they will be posting it soon, but if you have the same questions, email them.
it was not a web link, or I would provide it, however they sent me a 1.2 meg PDF help file.
(i’m on dial up and still waiting!!!! :>)
Thank you all, Happy new Year!

November 22, 2005 at 12:01 am in reply to: I have Music but voice and vocals are Lost In Space????to answer the question about windows media – I also rendered part of the project as windows media for streaming on the web at 100KB.
That was after rendering the mpg and AC3 files.
everything was fine with the windows media after i bumped the data rate up to about 20kb/s — it was set at 16 kb for audio (who knows).
AS far as the DVD’s go, I was looking for something for MONO setting… without rendering for Center Channel only… I suspect that would really screw things up.— but maybe not???
Right now I am rendering stereo DVD (L&R) only. but it definately plays out of the back channels and hardly out of the front when in anything but 2 ch stereo on the RXVR. any dolby modes it’s all rear channels… weirdest thing i have ever seen.
Just to check, I just took one of Gary Kliener’s DVD’s down and it plays fine – Through the center channel on most of the dolby audio options… (listening to voice ) either from the center channel or from the 2 fron L&R channels, on stereo L&R onlu, it’s fine.
YES, My speakers are hooked up correctly… just in case someone is wondering if that’s it!…
Should I use MONO Center only?

November 21, 2005 at 12:54 pm in reply to: I have Music but voice and vocals are Lost In Space????OK, i tried compression on the audio track and still no help – then increased audio data rates for a 100KB stream to the minimum for stereo audio (had mono B4)… now its all there.
this is the first clip[ that I’ve had this problem with in WMV streams so I guess I’ll go with a stereo stream from now on, but still wondering why one of my clients had such low audio on a DVD other than perhaps the DVD player(s) – parents and daughter both have the same problem –
All other clients do not report problems. suggested they look at set up menus on their dvd players for audio playback –
any suggestions there?
What about audio track compression? – does anyone use compression on their DVD’s with the standard options available in Vegas – this was my first try at audio effects like this –
what would be the recommended settings if audio compression is advisable!
thanks again to all

November 7, 2005 at 3:31 pm in reply to: audio does not play in DVD player, but it does on paystationMy Projects are for stereo DVD – or what would default to any dvd player and tv or home thtr system.
This is event work and the final mix is always 2 ch stereo. – no surround sound mixes (that I know of) which is what i want to avoid so the dvd will play in anything with a default stereo output.
my vegas projects are originally edited on media 100’s (because i am like that work platform and then mastered to DVCAM with stereo out (ch 1& 2)
then i bring the project into vegas via 1394 from my feeder source to create my mpg and AC3 files (and to archive the project for a while on hard drives)
I can assume that even if I add some audio trackes in vegas, it will combine all of the audio tracks (lets say I add 2 audio tracks to the original 2 tracks (now 4 total L & R) more to clean something up or add a piece in vegas) i am assuming the when i tell vegas to render ac3 audio it takes those 2 or 4 tracks and makes a stereo out put file – at least thats what I want, with no surround sound.
Dazed and Confused!!!!
Thanks
