You have the right idea…. But you really shouldn’t cut corners here if this is something that will make you big bucks.

Check out ProMax at promax.com. They have some serious kicking systems that will do exactly what you need to do. Something to consider, you should look at the Kona 3 rather than the Kona LHe because the LHe does not upconvert to HD from SD. There will be a time when you’ll need this. Secondly, you need to max out the RAM on the computer since you’ll be working with HD. The more RAM the better the system will run. And the processors are extremely important her, too. Dual 2 gig processors will only handle very simple editing only. I would consider the largest Quad Mac available.

Ok…. Now, i’m stumped. The only thing we have in common is an Apple G5 computer with an ATI video card. Otherwise we have different models and different devices installed.

I would have to agree with Walter. We use the very same monitors and I don’t see any problems like that except the slow screen refresh of the monitor.

Yes… They’re stumped on this one… I was told that no one has ever reported this before and they don’t have answer. So, good try…

Jared, is your video card an ATI X800 XT? Just trying to look for common denominators…

Well, this will throw a wrench into your troubleshooting…. I have had this same exact problem ever since I purchased the system in May of 2005. Still no fix or no idea why this is happening. It happens with all driver versions and every time I have installed one I used the uninstall program first then repaired my permissions. Still no good…

So….. What’s the answer now? Let me ask, Jared, what system are you using? I have a G5 Dual 2.7 with 4.5 gig of RAM. I’m just looking to see if you have the same, and if so, we have a problem with Apple on this issue.

If you wish to go ahead and jump into the HDV spectrum of the market, which is not a bad idea considering the fact that HD is just around the corner. Check out the HDV series of cameras from Sony – the FX1 and the Z1. The Z1 is the brodcast version, so the speak. It has XLR inputs, can record HDV, DV, or DVCAM for whatever project that you have. I will say this, the downconverted HDV to DV from the camera is tons better than that of the Canon GL1 or XL1 (XL2) cameras.

You’ll need to use Cinema Tools to do the proper conversion for you. If you ever get Quicktime to do it correctly, you’ll find out that you video will have a stuttered effect and look terrible. But Cinema Tools is made specifically for this.

March 16, 2006 at 2:35 pm in reply to: about MXF Format

First of all, why do you want to export to an MXF file? At the moment, there are no uses for that other than maybe exporting it back to an XDCAM disc or P2 card as a file, which would be a much faster way of dumping a show to disc or card. You do know that you can export a Quicktime movie in the MXF format, don’t you?

I have talked with Telestream and they understand the importantance of this but haven’t said whether this will be included or not.

At this moment, all I am looking for, is a way for the plugin to select audio channels and the number of channels you want to import. I don’t need a file with eight channels of audio if my field footage has only two or four.

By the way, most all of the NLE out here understand the MXF format for importing but not to export. Sony’s XDCAM has the only real need for exporting because of its operating costs make it perfect for mastering to disc and archiving, but that’s only one manufacturer out of many. So, I think the export function is going to be a ways away before we see it.

March 16, 2006 at 2:26 pm in reply to: photoshop with final cut

It should…. It always did for me. I find it a pain sometimes and it seems like FCP doesn’t handle Photoshop PSDs very well at all. I get aliased edges and distortion problems with mine, but then again I am using Photoshop 7.0, not CS2.

When you import the file, it comes in as a sequence, of sorts…. meaning that if you double click it, it will open a sequence with all of your layers.
