Yes to all… The problem with HDV is the way FCP handles it. The best method is to use something like the AJA HD10A inconjunction with the Kona2 so that you can digitize the signal HD-SDI rather than the HDV way.
Now, my next question is… Which HDV are you looking at? There is little support for any flavor of HDV but Panasonic and JVC 24p recordings are almost impossible to use in FCP with a translation program, and don’t even consider the Sony HDV if you are wanting 24p, it sucks. But if you go with Sony and use standard HDV or Cineframe 30, you’ll be just fine.
Main thing is… FCP doesn’t handle HDV very well at all, at the moment. NAB is comming up and I know Apple has some new improvements for FCP so I think it would be very beneficial to wait until NAB and do some research there for your solution.
Just for your knowledge… I purchased my system thru ProMax, who was very very helpful and understanding of my budget constraints.

First question I have to ask is… What version of BorisFX do you have? If you are running version 7, that’s your problem. Version 8 is compatible with FCP 5, version 7 has many, many problems.

Thanks guys…. but my problem is that I don’t want to compress, just limit. I used to work for another production company that used the Sony PVW-2800 betacam recorders and they had limiters on them that worked really well. I’m looking for just a plain old peak limiter that I can say limit at -12 db, for example.

If you are using the delete key near the numeric pad, it will ripple your timeline. If you use the delete key at the top of the QWERTY part of your keyboard, it will only delete that clip or clips with no ripple.

Yes… my sequence and my footage are all set to IMX50 which is my main codec since we use Sony’s XDCAM system.

I captured my footage as anamorphic and my sequence is not. I wanted a letterbox effect for this program. All of the footage is already shot in 16:9, so therefore I had to digitize all of it as anamorphic.

Is everybody using FCP 5.0.4? I, too, have had the same problem since going with the FCP 5.0.4 upgrade.

You can have multiple firewire cards on your system, as I do on a G4 system and it works just fine. BUT remember, AJA IO has to be on a card by itself! It needs the ful bandwidth to operate.
