[Samuel Miron] “I’m glad to know someone else has pulled it off! I’m not sure what you mean by slow media array though, what do you recommend?”
What’s your data rate? As I said we run approx. 350MB/s. Data rate is everything when working with multiple formats. Slow media array will equal very poor performance.

[Samuel Miron] ” I’m editing using Adobe Premiere Pro CC but I’m running into huge problems because the footage is so huge and so different. “
Sounds like a slow media array. We just finished a broadcast sizzle with C300, 7D, EX1, GoPro and Panasonic MTS files. Mixed it all together in single timelines and didn’t really have an issue. The GoPro footage does slow down the edit and folks have recommended converting the GoPro to ProRes or Cineform.
But in terms of throwing that all together, it does work. We run a Small Tree SAN with about 100TB running in the neighborhood of 350MB/s.

September 1, 2013 at 4:18 pm in reply to: Red Giant Colorsuite II conflict with PP 7I’m running into a LOT of Serious Errors when using Magic Bullet Looks with Premiere Pro CC. I’ve been sending a ton of crash logs to Red Giant. I know I’m not alone with these issues although I’ve never had a project not open up.
Generally it’s Looks that is causing the issue so my suggestion would be to try and install JUST Colorista. I’ve not had any issues with that tool. Try opening the project with your media array turned off so none of the media loads and disable Looks on all of your shots. Then quit, turn on the array and see if that helps.
Generally we send all our shows through to Resolve but Looks / Colorista is nice when you just want to stay in PP.

[Vincent Levalois] “Yeah I’m finding it impossible to do the simplest of things like crossfade two clip by dragging one over an other and boom, it’s done in Vegas but in Premiere it’s drag a transition over the edit point, etc. — A major pain in the butt!”
Does any NLE do that? FCP doesn’t. I don’t think Avid does. Never heard of this feature quite honestly.
One word of advice. Premiere Pro is NOT Vegas. If you want to learn how Premiere Pro works, then keep going. If it’s too tedious for you, then move on to another app. I had 11 years on FCP and then had to move to Premiere Pro CS6. CS6 was VERY clunky compared to FCP but we pushed through because the native workflow was so fast. Now CC is MUCH improved in efficiency over CS6 and we’re moving all manner of broadcast, documentary and corporate work through the app. We work with the app the way it was designed.
So either adapt your workflow to Premiere Pro or go find another NLE that better suits your workflow. You’ll drive yourself crazy if you keep comparing Vegas to Premiere.

The only thing I can suggest is to make one change to the YouTube preset you really want to use, making it become a “custom” preset and see if that changes anything. Something as simple as changing the video compression quality by one tick.
Does it do the same thing with the Vimeo 360 preset?
We create custom presets from everything

August 18, 2013 at 7:11 pm in reply to: 2questions about resizing and workflow-related.[Erik Emanuelsson] “I figured it would be more easy to start a new project and import the export of the long version. How do I do that without any or little loss of quality?”
Just duplicate your final timeline and start trimming that. No need to start a new project.
[Erik Emanuelsson] “Question number two: The recordings were done with 3 iPhone5 but one of the cameras was to far back so i really need to zoom in or crop or something without loosing to much quality. I figured that I need to go from 100% to about 140% and I used the Clip effects control and something called motion scale? and resized the clip. Is that the best way of doing it? I mean… I really don’t need 1080 as output. 720 would do i think… Should I have started a smaller project and decreast the other two instead of this way were I increased one of the clips?”
You could create a 720p timeline and edit in there. Then you simply scale down the other two cameras and you’ll be able to scale up the the third camera and won’t distort the image too much.

August 18, 2013 at 7:08 pm in reply to: Can someone who is proficient in Final Cut Pro, find Adobe Premiere CC easy to edit?Super easy to transition, just set up the Keyboard Shortcuts to be FCP’s and you’re 75% of the way there already.
You just need to learn some of the quirks of “well FCP did it this way but how does Adobe do it?”

You really want to start with An Editor’s Guide to Adobe Premiere Pro. After 11 years on Final Cut Pro I purchased this book for my entire staff and it’s an excellent guide to get you started. Written from an editor’s perspective rather than “teaching you how to edit” along with the software.

[Shane Ross] “Depends on whether or not you have that Mercury Engine working too. My tower has it, but my laptop doesn’t. I convert GoPro to Cineform using the Cineform Studio, and AVCHD to ProRes using ClipWrap2.”
My main tower at the office now has dual nVidias with the new K5000 as the main Mercury Engine card and it still chugs on GoPro footage. AVCHD no problem at all, but we’re going to start converting all the GoPro as a rule now.
