[Chris Borjis] “chugs?
CS6 played it badly..dropping frames and very sluggish.
I’ve found CC plays it very smoothly…like any other footage.
“Nope, still chugging and sluggish here. Hearing the same from a lot of other CC using folks.

We cut everything native unless there’s an absolute reason to do so. I cut on FCP for 11 years and it took a while to get used to the total native workflow.
We have noticed that GoPro footage chugs and many folks are recommending to convert that footage to Cineform or ProRes/DNxHD before editing so we’re going to start doing that.

July 30, 2013 at 11:04 pm in reply to: Export to Resolve with scale, sizing, horizontal flips and dissolves…possible?Unless every single clip in your timeline is exactly the same codec, frame size, frame rate and has no effects in the timeline, this will not work. Premiere Pro can handle far more elements than Resolve can.
We send shows to Resolve all the time from Premiere. We flatten the file to a ProRes or DNxHD quicktime, then I use the Scene Detect function in Resolve to cut the show up, grade, then render a new ProRes file back out of Resolve to finish.
Been doing this workflow well over a year, works well.

What’s your system setup?
What’s your Media Array?
Do you have your Audio and Video Previews set up correctly? Once you render something, it should not have to be rendered again unless you change it. That’s how it works for us across all our systems, even when we move a project to another system during Post.

[Bob Zelin] “And with experience behind you (like from Biscardi Media !), you will have CREDIBILITY, instead of saying “I got an A on my student film”. “
We can all see how far your BCM internship took you Bob. Glad I could be a small part of your success. 🙂
[Bob Zelin] “and TAKE DIRECT TRAINING CLASSES from them (or a place like Future Media Concepts) and practice, and THEN get an internship.”
And consider something like the Southeast Creative Summit which should have hundreds of creatives all taking workshops, networking and sharing knowledge. Workshop type events are awesome because there’s so many folks and you learn during the day and swap stories and knowledge at night.

Of course it completely boggles my mind when someone takes a service with brand awareness and just throws that name away.

[Mike Kozlenko] “I am starting college in August and am currently majoring in Media Production. However, for the first 2 years, I will obviously be taking general education courses, before I get into my major. I have contacted the main production facility on campus and I will be volunteering for them, mainly doing live production, like sporting events. But I am not sure how often they will need me or exactly what I’ll be doing. “
I have to say this is why I recommend Community or Junior college when folks ask me where to go to school for this industry. I spent two years at Community College actually doing production in the studios before I went to Syracuse and I was so far ahead of my classmates that I was teaching them stuff both in production and post. In fact I had a demo reel when I got to Syracuse, none of my classmates had even produced anything yet.
[Mike Kozlenko] “My question is this: What should I be doing over the next 2 years to enhance my skills so I can go into my major and eventually the industry with an advantage over others?”
Intern and volunteer as much as you can. Is there a film club / television club / etc… on campus? Get involved. Is there a local station / production company near the campus? Get an internship, even if it’s not an “official school internship.” Is there a user group like the Atlanta Cutters down here? Get your name and face out there so folks know who you are.

[Peter Friedlander] “I recently attended a prestigious school in which I got lots of connections in the television industry of which I would like to get into this area with. Unfortunatly all of these connections fell through and I have emailed them twice or even three times at different points with my cover letter requesting if they had any work for me.”
Well, making the connections in college and turning those into jobs after are two completely different things. The “prestigious school” really means nothing when you get out of college. While in the school, you get introduced to all sorts of super cool alumni, you share business cards, etc…. When I was at Syracuse University the coolest experience I had was meeting and chatting with Bob Costas. One of the neatest guys you’ll ever meet. Didn’t help me at all when I graduated.
Basically when these folks come to the schools they’re offering advice and encouragement, but unless you’re looking for an internship, generally these meetings don’t turn into real job opportunity afterwards. Why? Well because most of us who have been industry a long time have a long list of folks we work with on a regular basis. And when we’re looking for someone new, we reach out to those same people for recommendations.
[Peter Friedlander] “My question being, how can I get noticed and get attention in all the right areas with companies with this sort of thing? Boost my profile.”
Intern, participate in 48 hour film festivals if you have them, get involved with User Group and organization like the Atlanta Cutters Post Production User Group here in Atlanta. You need to get in front of people. Online presence alone doesn’t sell you. It’s too easy to just copy other people’s work and throw it up online as a demo reel. I don’t know how many demos I’ve seen that include the Video Copilot fly out from earth. Sure it’s modified, but it’s the same effect.
People have to get to know you and then they feel comfortable recommending you for work. How do you actually work with clients, with other crew, etc….
Reach out to production companies in your area and offer to work for free on a project or two just to get in front of them.
In some ways it’s a tougher industry to get into today and in others, it’s easier. Just depends on where you are. Best!

[Steve Connor] “I haven’t had this work correctly on 4 different systems since 5.5”
Ok, that’s weird. We edited almost 12 months with CS6 before switching to CC and we did not have that problem. If we did it would have driven us insane. No clue what to tell you. We have 7 total installs for the company, none of them exhibit this.

If your Loop Playback is off, it should stop. As Todd mentions, this can be set individually per Sequence.
We have two systems that have been cutting with CC here for some time now, both iMacs, and playback behavior is correct. When looping is off, Playback stops. When looping is on, playback loops.
Same with my home iMac system. I’m not seeing the software get “stuck” in looping.
