I have 5 completely different machines and configurations all with FCP 4.5 on them. All work perfectly fine. FCP is very very stable. If it wasn’t business wouldn’t be up 600% over the past three years at my facility.

Who told you to update? I update my system manually after testing the OS on another machine and waiting for AJA to approve the new update.

Motion is a fantastic app and you can read about Richard Harrinton’s amazing film opener and I’m using it currently for a broadcast server. I use a POP mail server and all messages are removed every 7 days as instructed.
Sell you Mac, switch to Windows and get the Adobe Suite. I’m sure it will perform to your liking.

You need motion blur applied to the photoshop file to make it smoother. It’s in the Motion Tab. Set the amount for 25 and the steps to the maximum settings. See if that works better.
Anytime you apply a motion to any layer in FCP, whether it’s a graphic or video, you need to apply a motion blur to it to keep the movement smooth.

You’re seeing interlacing issues. Depending on the speed, FCP does a good or not so good job of speed changes. If you want perfect slo mo, fast speeds or ramped speeds, then Twixtor is the way to go.
