I would strongly suggest re-installing OS 10.3 from the original disks using the “Archive and Install” option. This will retain all your applications and prefs, but replace the OS. Then install the Mac OS 10.3.8 combo updater.

I’m willing to bet that Flip 4 Mac and possibly the SATA raid are not approved for 10.3.9 yet.

Unless your system is completely unstable and un-usable you should never update anything on your system in the middle of a project.

I didn’t see anything either on the AJA website or their forum here on the Cow that says 10.3.9 has been approved for use with Kona 2. I wouldn’t update any OS unless there is specific information that has approved the OS.

There is an announcement that FCP 5 will be supported when it’s released, but nothing about 4.5 / 10.3.9.

First off, the camera’s announced ship date is the fourth quarter of this year so you’ll be waiting a while.

Panasonic was vague on how we’ll get the P2 cards into the Mac but I’m expecting some sort of external Firewire device like you have for digital camera flash cards where you’ll just transfer the material from the P2 to your drives and start editing.

Firewire 800 drives are plenty fast enough for DVCPro HD.

You’ll see it on the Apple website first if it happens. I was hoping for yesterday since Tuesday is the normal day for Apple to release new hardware, but nothing so far.

Yep, same here, just purchased the upgrade to the full studio for $499 and added a second complete studio package at the regular full price. Special thanks to Ned Soltz who brought this all up on the other forums.

[Wayne K.] “But anyway, I also found that using the keyer in Boris BCC can also be a great tool. “

That’s a MUCH better keyer than Apple’s own Chroma Keyer. In fact I tell everyone that BCC should be on every editor’s workstation as it’s a nice “swiss army knife” of filters, effects and tools.

April 19, 2005 at 3:41 pm in reply to: “Edit Anything”

[Ron] “True…but the bigger issue is saving all of that hard drive space. Where a BetaSP package might yield 1 or 2 hours of footage…. people shooting DV,DVCAM,DVCPRO25/50 are now handing in twice the amount of footage. Tapes are cheap, experimentation is up! 🙂 “

With the Kona 2 I can capture pretty much anything to any format so I don’t necessarily have to capture DV footage to uncompressed. I can bring Beta down to DV or up to DVCPro HD, or HD down to SD or DV, whatever. So you don’t need to necessarily fill up drive space to work in one format. Choose the format you want to edit in and then capture all the footage to that format.

Drives are pretty cheap too, so I don’t really think drive space is all that much of an issue anymore. I have 4TB of various storage here and adding more storage is as easy as a call to macmall.
