We’re doing a project right now that would really benefit from FCP5’s multi-cam tool. We’ve already started the project, and we’ve got crazy strict deadlines. I am VERY weary of upgrading in the middle of the process not to mention a first version that’s bound to have quirks. I recommending that we wait, until we at least get our first rough cut done before we upgrade anything. Am I right to be so cautious?

Well you can’t even get FCP 5 for 4-6 weeks so if you’d have to wait at least that long to get it. I think it’s a little risky to upgrade in the middle of a project.

My thought exactly. I think it’s highly risky to upgrade. I know it’s not out yet, but I was trying to convience others in the office that there’s no reason to preorder. Besides, I’ll let you guys at Creative Cow experiment first, and see what you guys think……

Bad idea to upgrade to ANYTHING in the middle of a project. My expereince with FCP upgrades is they generally have some issues at the beginning. I would be very cautious.

Unless your system is completely unstable and un-usable you should never update anything on your system in the middle of a project.

Right on! How far away can 5.1 be?

You can also “fake” multicam in the FCP 4.5.

Just scale the clips and set RT to unlimited and low. Cheap and dirty, but it works.

Are you aware of Multicam? Here’s the url: https://www.digital-heaven.co.uk/indexflash.htm

I haven’t used it, but it might be an immediate solution. Perhaps someone who’s had some direct experience with it can comment.
