Don’t get rid of the PipeStudio if you don’t need to. Keep it in a second system as the K2 and the Pipe family play very nice together. I’ve been in a 15 day edit with both suites working on the same projects in the Apple 8bit uncompressed codec and we keep moving projects files back and between the two rooms. Room 1 has the K2, Room 2 has the PipePro. It’s been a complete project saver with this client.
If you only have one system, then I guess you need to sell it off, but if you have another G4 or G4 lying around, throw the Pipe in there and keep on cutting.

If it’s like it has been in the past, you can upgrade from any previous version of FCP to the latest.

Kona 2 is all digital inputs with some analog output. So if your workflow requires Analog input then the Io is the perfect add-on which works hand-in hand with the Kona 2. In addition, since the Io is an external box, you can connect it to multiple workstations by simply moving it around the office or even to a laptop. To do with with a Kona 2 would require shutting down the machine, removing the card, etc…..
With the Kona 2, the Io LA is a perfect Analog add-on.

We’ve run 1080 on it and it’s absolutely gorgeous. In fact, one of my VAR’s was here one day working with some 1080i footage he shot with the Panasonic camera (not sure which model #, it’s the one that only shoots 1080i) and he was amazed at the quality of the output.
Not doubting that the Dell may be better, but the Sony is definitely worth a look. We’re going to use it as our playback monitor this weekend during our film shoot. I’ll let you know how that goes.

That’s a bit out of my reach.”That would be really cheap used DigiBeta machine, they’re more like $60k new for a recorder. You can get a Sony UVW-1800 (BetaSP) for about $6,000 or less used. That gives you BetaSP record capabilities which you could always get transferred to DigiBeta later.
Of course, then you want to work in uncompressed to deliver the cleanest master possible, so you would want at least the AJA Io to allow uncompressed capture / delivery and at least one FW800 drive to work with 8bit uncompressed video.

I think the HD-SDI card for that particular monitor is a waste of money. After all, it’s 800 lines whether you install that option or not, so I’d rather save the money and put it towards other equipment since the component output from the Kona 2 is so sharp on that monitor anyway. As you note, the HD-SDI card is more than the monitor.
I’ve heard nothing good about the new Luma series and plan to add a second PVM20L5/1 before they disappear. Fantastic monitor at a great price. It’s a shame everyone has to phase out the CRT’s, but change is a continuous part of our business.

Duplicate the video track and place it directly above the original.
Now apply a blur to the top video track.
Now crop the top video track to only blur the area you want blurred. You can add a feather if you’d like.
