It’s one of those little things you wish Apple would put into the software. I guess they figure you have to go load / unload the machine anyway, but especially for folks like me with the equipment in another room, a simple Eject button would be nice.

There are several SDI – Component conveters out there. BlackMagic and AJA both have very good ones.

I can’t give you head to head on that as I only tried a Decklink for about a month and never had both products here at the same time. Basically the two products are almost identical in feature set.
I went with the Kona 2 and have had it running almost daily since December. Rock solid, incredible tech support and I prefer the K-Box with all external connectors over the on-board SDI connectors. Easier to connect, disconnect various decks from a rack mounted box than going behind the G5.
Tech Support is just outstanding with AJA and they have a very tight relationship with the FCP team so they’re always on top of OS and FCP updates.
I guess you’ll just have to look at reviews for each individual product and see if any feature jumps out at you as a “must have” from one or the other.

Render speeds are affected by CPU and soon the Graphics card will also play into that. RAM does not affect render speed.

actually no, the recommendation to me was matched RAM, matched Pair’s throughout the machine. Remove the Apple RAM and replace it with all matched RAM and preferrably from the same set.
You don’t need to follow that recommendation. I’m just letting you know this is what was recommended to me and I have followed that advice with the last three computer purchases.

Crucial came highly recommended a few years ago from a buddy who sells high end High Def systems and runs his own High Def shop with Final Cut Pro systems. It’s all I’ve purchased for the past two years for all of my Mac’s.
I run two G5 uncompressed systems, one of which is High Def and RAM is not an issue.

FYI, G5’s run their best with matched RAM so whenever I purchase a mew Mac, I purchase with the bare minimum RAM, then replace all of it with Crucial’s.
For instance, I picked up a Dual 2.0 last month and then ordered 4GB RAM from Crucial. When the G5 showed up, I pulled out the RAM supplied by Apple and put all Crucial RAM in.

Depends on the stands. As long as the stand supports the weight, sure. They do NOT have a bottom screw port to screw them into a stand, they need to sit on a shelf or platform. If you visit my website, go into the facility tour and look at “wally world.” You’ll see a picture of my old Point Seven’s sitting on some speaker platforms I made. The KRK’s are now sitting on the same platforms. (I’ll be updating the photos shortly.) Just galvanized pipe with a 1/2″ piece of wood on top for the platform. Works well.
Also, I purchased some Auralex speaker pads which sit underneath the KRK’s and they sound a bit cleaner on them.
No I did not purchase the sub.

Not sure where you’re located Fred, but I purchased my unit from David Strupp and WH Platts here in Atlanta. They cover the whole southeast and I highly recommend them. In addition, ProMax is a great VAR as well.
