I once asked this to BMs support department, and they said they recommend the driver that installs with Resolve, because they specifically design it for the application.

I’m not sure if that situation has changed but that’s what I go by.

I was pleasantly surprised to find the “wipe still” knob acting as a shuttle wheel when not in still playback mode.

Also, this might sound silly but I added 2 rubber pads to the 2 shift buttons, and now I can press them with my wrists. This has sped up my work tremendously, since for the most part I don’t have to move my fingers from the buttons I want to press.

  • Is there a rule of thumb at what’s too much for the media pool?

I have never run into an out of memory error, including some feature length projects.

I can only talk about FCP – it’s stupid slow. I bought it because workflow seemed easiest, and it is – I roundtrip my resolve graded XML back into FCP, and can simply add noise reduction on the shots I need. Very easy. But rendering out a 20 minute short 1080p takes hours, and isn’t using anywhere near max of my 12 core system.

I don’t know how fast the other versions are. If I were to buy another version it would probably be for Premiere.

I’ve used it with good results, and small quantities, when qualified to a problematic skin complexion. I think it works very nicely for that.

But, to remove actual digital noise, I don’t like it. There is a lot of artifacting that’s for me, less preferable than the noise. I too take it back to FCP and use NeatVideo.

  • A 12 core will debayer half-res good in realtime, or at least, one stream of it.

If unmix doesn’t work for whatever reason, here’s a hack idea:

On clips you’d like to mute, create an new unconnected mode. Hook it up to the source image. Add an alpha output, and connect the node to that. Now, if you invert the key on that node it will make it transparent.

You can either enable/disable that node to toggle the clip, or invert key on that node. Inverting key might be better because it won’t mess you up when doing enable/disable all on a grade.

Not elegant but it should work!

    Hi Peter,

In addition to what Sacha pointed out, I’d like to add that if I try to hold down shift and press a function, things get really screwy. I haven’t nailed down the pattern yet, but sometimes, I can hold shift+ press function, get shift function result, then let go, but “shift” will still be on for my next button press. Other times it doesn’t do that.

I think that is the biggest thing causing some confusion when I’m trying to work quickly.

    1) I have no lag that I notice, but my panel is connected directly to the Mac via ethernet (not to a router)

    2) All knobs seem to work

    3) After computer restart I have to manually re-add in EuCon. Not sure why but it seems to work after that.

The shift key behavior is driving me up the wall though, and I’m not sure if I’m just not used to it or something’s going wrong. It constantly gets stuck in a different state from what I expect it to be.

  • Check the reel name in FCP under clip details. If that’s intact, Resolve should relink.

Also in Resolve make sure getting reel name embedded in the file is enabled
