Basically, the official spec requires a 285 or quadro + a GT120. The monitors should connect to the 120, that way the 285 can be used 100% for davinci’s coloring engine.

By plugging in your monitor into the 285 directly you’re probably limiting performance. You may not have hit that ceiling yet, but a system with a GT120 will be able to do more nodes in realtime than yours.

Problem starts when putting in a 285, GT120, decklink, and a raid card.

I think the extract audio option is a tease. There’s an asterisk that says it’s basically not enabled yet, in the manual.

As far as not hearing it, the things that tripped me up first was not having 48khz WAV. Also, it will be playing back through the decklink so make sure that’s set up correctly.

If I remember correctly what you write on the DPX is one thing, and what the header is is another.

The header should only tell the program how to interpret the footage, or basically, what kind of input LUT to throw on. I think this is what Color does (and you can manually override this)

How you write the data is otherwise separate. So if you grade your footage to Rec 709 and then bake in a Lin to Log LUT, I *think* you should have proper log DPXs, with maybe incorrect or missing headers (because I haven’t seen anywhere in DaVinci where I can define a DPX header).

Clearly you are speaking from the future.

This 7.0.3 seems to be chock full of cool things I’m excited to see.

I believe that you’d want to select your root R3D directory folder and select “add folder and subfolders into media pool” from the right click menu. That should add all r3d files.

As far as EDL error, I’m not sure. I would make sure that you have simplified your timeline to 1 video track for taking into DaVinci. Remove all effects besides dissolves, as those won’t be understood. I have also been setting “target video track only” in the EDL export (making sure my target video track is the one with all the video on it). Oh and make sure your format is CMX3600.

That should clear up any problems Resolve would have with your EDLs.

Ola, I know you can also add black to an image using blanking and a little bit of math, in the output of the format tab. That appears on the color page and the output monitor as well. However, when I render out the blanking doesn’t seem to be baked into the output. I’m wondering if there’s a way to get that to render out, because there have been cases where 1.77 w/ matted file is preferable for the client to 2.40 cropped.

I bet it does but I’m not sure if its necessary. I’ve used Clipfinder a lot when working with FCP > RedCineX > Color, but generally you don’t even need it when using Resolve.

Rohit, are there development kits available (like the ones you would provide Euphonix etc to develop panel support)? I’d imagine if we found the correct command to send Resolve it wouldn’t be hard to add all these little functions to some mapping software.

Otherwise, any idea if enabling all these panel-only features is something that will happen in a patch or two?
