  • Not entirely true – only one Quadro will be used for picture engine processing yes, but the other will go toward GUI and other OS overhead. You won’t get 2x the nodes but you’ll get a faster experience.

I haven’t had to do major VFX projects yet so pardon my theorycrafting here:

If your VFX guys preserved reel and or timecode, “reconform from folders” should work, if you import your VFX into a separate folder.

If VFX files came back with all new TC, I imagine you might have to cut them in the first time, but all subsequent versions should be reconformable, provided VFX keeps their own outputs with consistent TC.

    Michael,

I wonder if you can send your images to Apple Support, if they would have anything to say on the matter. It seems like a fairly big issue even outside of our color correction world that playing back a DVD screws up the color so much.

I got garbage files when my clips in the timeline were sped up or slowed down. But for standard fps clips source rendering has worked for me for all the formats I’ve dealt with.

I don’t care about QT X as much, but the problem is I’ve found Mac DVD player to match the look of QTX as well. That concerns me because often screeners of shorts I do go out on DVD to fests and I’m sure often get watched on macbooks, etc.

  • Yeah I’ve done this once. If the timecode is unique enough you may even get away with not worrying about reels….

FCP will put the full reel name in the comments, but not in the field that Resolve will read. I’ve used TextWrangler to do some creative renaming and make it work.

I would also throw in – I loved the feature on Apple Color where I could position a window with a trackball. Seemed to work really fast that way as opposed to dual knobs. Perhaps this can be added as an alt function?

Perhaps. Was there ever any benchmark made of the GTX 470 running inside a Mac Pro (not Hackintosh)?

    https://cgi.ebay.com/Nvidia-GTX-470-Apple-Mac-Pro-1280-Megs-Fermi-CUDA-/230605541943?pt=PCC_Video_TV_Cards&hash=item35b1295237

This card seems to be a very happy compromise – it’s low power enough to run off of the Pro’s PSU, but still a newer generation Fermi card. And only $400 from MacVidCards.

  • This seems insanely useful. I haven’t heard of this program before. Thank you!

Posts like these are why I love this forum

I believe BL stands for black slug in EDL lingo. Could the editor have given you the incorrect target track when exporting? Perhaps he was targetting a matte layer, etc?
