June 25, 2009 at 10:26 pm in reply to: beam effect is shaky

    Hi Kevin.

The beam is on a solid in the precomp; composite on original is set to off. In the main comp, I added the echo filter to the layer w/ the precomp in it and set it to the settings you suggested. When I set the operator to natural, it didn’t seem to make a difference; screen and add turned it into a solid white line. My guess is that did something with the alpha channel (perhaps that tells you something about how I constructed it that may be relevant).

Would AE be creating two fields for each frame, i.e., interlace it? The way the beam appears as it wipes across the screen reminds me of weird things that sometime have to do with interlace problems.

    Thanks.

July 20, 2008 at 12:42 am in reply to: Aspect Ratio

    Jim and Chris,

I followed this thread with much interest because I have a similar question.

I am working on a project in Final Cut; it is DV footage so the screen aspect ratio is 720 x 480. I imported some footage into AE CS3, want to do some work on it, and then export it back into FC to combine with other footage. Because of the square/non-square pixel aspect ratio situation, the image is stretched horizontally in AE. (This is particularly disconcerting because not only is it adding 30 pounds to the modern dancer on the screen, but that dancer happens to be me!)

As per your advice, Chris, I read about interpreting footage and comp settings in AE help. It seems to me that in my situation I don’t want to change the settings, since I will be sending the footage back to FC, but I do want to view it correctly while in AE (if for no other reason than to quell my ego). So I am thinking that all I need to do is to toggle the aspect ratio correction button at the bottom of the composition panel. Do you agree? Should I toggle back before I render?

    Thank you.

What I want to know is why does a person my age still have to get permission?
    Thanks again, David.

    David,

I just ran it, opened FC and my project. You are the Man! Thank you so much. I will look into getting Disc Warrior.
