Hi David.
I’m running OS X 4.11. I forget which jungle animal gave rise to that upgrade. Upon closer reading of the Disc Utility instruction, it says that if I want to repair my startup disk I have to start up from the Install disc. But that’s not what I am doing, I am simply repairing disc permissions, right? As soon as you confirm I will go ahead and do that.

I don’t own Disc Warrior. I trashed my FC preferences. Re the disc utility: FC is of course in my applications folder on my main hard drive; should I select the hard drive and click on “Repair Disk Permissions”? (Is the main hard drive the “startup disk?” If so, the Disc Utility says to start up from my OS X install disc, then run Disc Utilities. Do I need to do this?)
Thanks. -
This helps Andy. Thanks very much.

Thanks Shane. I took a quick look at Traffic. Right now I don’t want to take that detour, but it has piqued my curiosity. At a later time perhaps I will check it out.

Thanks Andy. I took a somewhat cursory look at the link you provided to GUI scripting. Right now I am not going to put the time in to learn about it so I don’t know if it would help out for my task or not. I appreciate the suggestion.

Hi Jerry, (I had to take a few days off from this project, hence my late response.) The 3 steps are:
File/Export Using Quicktime Conversion/Still Image (from the format menu).
I have to do this many times to export clips to help me visualize my project and eventually build a storyboard. A while back I posted re efficient ways to export a lot of stills for this purpose. I didn’t come up with anything more direct than this.
Thanks. Victoria

If it comes to redigitizing on another unit, what deck(s) do you recommend? (I don’t know which of the ones David suggested are for miniDV.) I have a Sony GVD300. It is probably five years old. Thanks.

Hi David. I redigitized a clip with one or two frames of drop out and what I feared might happen did indeed happen: There is more drop out on the newly digitized clip than the old one. Wednesday when I checked this section on the tape it looked good. Today I check the tape after I did the redigitizing and there was all the drop out that appeared on the redigitized clip. I guess it must have happened while the tape was queing up. Is DV this unstable? I was working off a clone of my master tape. The clone is only a month or two old. (The master is pretty old now, almost five years.)
So going forward I want to come up with a system to redigitize my clips with drop out in a way that if the redigitized clip is worse than the original one, I can switch back. I guess the best way to do this is to note the in and out points of the clip, enter them into the log and capture window, capture it with a similar but not identical name. Would you agree?

David,
The deck works so fortunately I don’t have to borrow a camera. I’ll do this on Friday and let you know how it goes. Thanks. Have a happy T-day.

No Matte, I shot it on miniDV. I just posted a further question to David re redigitizing. (I am a real beginner, as you will see if you look at my post.)
