You should be able to Google for a SMPTE bar file. Just be sure that you select the proper import settings otherwise you’ll shift the colors.

    Hi,

I’m not sure I follow you. You’re not really “converting” to QT from Avid. It’s the native format. Also, I’m pretty sure that Encore 1.5 imports QT. If that’s all the story, then your render setting from Avid must be off. What format is your original material to begin with?

    Hi Noah,

Is this card that much of a dog with a Quad (which I’m leaning to)?

  • I haven’t heard of anyone trying to run Xpress Pro on it, but it wouldn’t be my first choice. The extra stuff welcomes the opportunity for problems.

  • There was a plugin from Profound Effects called ‘Transfer”. If you Google it, you should be able to find the company that bought it. It’s available for free.

    Hello Sam,

Sure, you can do it with a .psd and a alpha channel. When you make the hole for the vignette, just make sure you have a nice 10 px+ feather. You may have better results saving the file as a .png, and importing that.

  • Hi,

I have the larger of the two models from Contour. It’s on my home setup. Initially, I used it a lot, but the novelty wore out after a while. Plus, I didn’t want to get used to it, because I’ve never worked in a suite that had one. My standard “mode” is one hand on the mouse and the other on the keyboard.

    😉

Are you running AE or gFX on that system? (I won’t tell)

    Hello Phil,

It really comes down to quality and price (plus figure in speed, too). If you want to go with a software solution that you can install on the Avid workstation, check out Procoder from Canopus. It’s eclipsed Cleaner in a handful of ways, and is a “cleaner” encoding engine than Sorenson Squeeze, in my opinion.

Hardware encoders can produce fabulous results and have a definite speed advantage, but I wouldn’t install the hardware on an Avid system. Buy a cheap, basic, but fast PC for it. Export an uncompressed QT file for best quality to a external drive, start it up, and put a kettle on.
