I thought it was a toss up between the Apple apps and Xpress Pro. The Quad isn’t officially qualified, but I’ve heard from people running on it. I keep my Avid on my PC system and the Mac for FCP/pro apps. Tight little world. However, I’m posting this on Safari 😉

It was either go for a Quad now, or wait at least a year until the MacIntels have had some time to smooth things out. I wanted the crunching power, and it has it plus the flexibility to run both FCP and Avid.

Going a bit further, you could bring in tthe whole piece as a QT Ref file and then split it up in AE if you don’t want to go with Automatic Duck. I’ll do this for mainly for finishing. The end result is pretty much the same.

Jeff, would you remove the Apple installed ram and load just the one brand, or is it OK to mix as long as it’s quality stuff? I’d never do that on a PC, but Macs are a new world to me.

Thanks for the info and links. I’m still very PC when it comes to thinking. I just learned “how to mount a .dmg” – I couldn’t figure out the little picture things… hahaha. I’ve worked on many Mac systems before,but I never had to even boot them up; sit and get to work, so I’m getting bitten by that.
I have a new Quad which has PCIe and is going to limit my choices for a while. I thought FW 800 might be less of a hassle upfront, but I’m going to look into adding a SATA card for a RAID.
Can anyone suggest a good Apple hardware forum? I couldn’t change my order once I realized a few things, and now I have questions about finding a 7800 GT card, what brand of memeory to mix (if allowable), and so forth. I Googled a few but editing/motion graphics is a bit more intensive than casual usage (I think).
