depends how they look rubbish…

when imported they should appear in the bin as matte clips if they’ve imported correctly…they may look crappy until you put them in context.

Another method(which can be more flexible anyway…)

output the sequence twice from ae
(I use targa sequences or similar not movies,whatever…)

first as a unpremultiplied seq/mov, and then a seperate alpha only seq(I think you can do this in one go by adding output modules), then import both to avid telling the import options to ignore alpha info, add both layers to the timeline, fill v2, alhpha v3 and add a matte key effect to the clip on v3(you my have to invert key in the effects editor…)

the Avid stuff i dunno but i exported them qt animations RGB + Alpha and this time they worked fine .
Does movement have bearing on it ? The first tries where with a moving and scaling text graphic and it looked pants..
Anyway thanks for tips the second way seems worth remembering for furure refernce..

Sure does. Were you able to preview it on a production monitor from AE?

probably to late now –

if it was movement that looked pants then your interpolation setting were wrong (import settings on avid should correspond to your ae sttings…upper/lower/non interlaced etc. Motion bluring in ae is also an important consideration.

RGB unpremult + alpha can be a better option, again it will look pants when you import it to avid, but will look cleaner when keyed over you background, by using unpremult the fill is larger than the key/matte/alpha giving cleaner soft edges and more scope if you need to defocus etc in avid.

yes we checked on a tv monitor and was fine so long as we kept the background from getting to bright..
Maybe not the best solution but hey we had to get it finished…

Pants = Rubbish = low quality (tis an english thing so dont worry about getting old !

it worked fine in the end provided that the background footage didnt get too bright…
(only a little tweak involved)
