HDV is very computational intensive, so there’s nothing like “only” HDV. That said, you can output a HDV timeline to any recorder with SDI or analog component inputs without needing the time to conform with the little MXO box from Matrox.

P2Log from Imagine Products. Have a look at http://www.aulich-adamski.de regarding workflow (the site is in German, but there is an English version of the PDF).

AFAIK it will NOT support 50p, only 25p. For 50p we’ll have to stick to Bj

If you want to stay machine independent (regarding card slots) for monitoring, have a look a t the Matrox MXO.

I think the MXO plus a good calibrated SD-monitor is not such a bad idea for checking color and contrast. You can always check focus on the computer’s screen (Cinema Desktop Preview).

As long as we have to take care for some SD output as well, this will also show you any interlace issues (like flickering of thin lines) you might run into. No flat screen can display this!

Or maybe just some dirt in the slots connectors?

Oh, one more thing: always have the card protected and always release it with the little symbol in the menu-bar too, not only by the icon on the desktop. I’ve experienced my PowerBook crashing when not doing so, and it might be the reason for reading errors as well.
I doubt that it’s your harddisk, since that will report I/o-errors when damaged, it won’t introduce arefacts silently.
