    Hey
Can anyone tell me what the best add on hardware is for speeding up the output process of HDV? “Print to Video” results in a double render, saying “Conforming HDV Video”, can a card such as one of the Konas get around this?

Rendering also seems to take a while… I rendered a 13 min HDV clip with scrolling text (motion blur on), and it took 2 days!

Bearing in mind I don’t cut anything fancier than HDV, so I don’t need anything that can handle 100mbs or anything.

    Any suggestions would be great!

HDV is very computational intensive, so there’s nothing like “only” HDV. That said, you can output a HDV timeline to any recorder with SDI or analog component inputs without needing the time to conform with the little MXO box from Matrox.

[Digistream] “can a card such as one of the Konas get around this?”

Yes, if you capture HDV as another format such as DVCPro100 and edit that.

The Kona 3 does output HDV in realtime via the Kona outputs, but this will not help you master in realtime back to an HDV deck via Firewire. If you’re mastering to HDCAM, you might be able to play back some timelines in realtime, but I don’t work in HDV at all, I convert everything over to DVCPro HD, so I’m not sure exactly how well it works.

That is the nature of HDV. When deeling with HDV you are deeling with the long Gop and that is why it has to conform the video een though it has been rendered.
