I can only confirm this. Believe me, you don’ really want to use Compressor at it’s best quality setting for anything longer than a few seconds.
Graeme’s filters offer a very good balance between quality, speed and cost.
I you want something better than that, go for a service company which is using an Alchemist from Snell & Willcox or serious hardware from Teranex. But you will probably spend more on one job than for a full license of Graeme’s.

Well, Pana is to be blamed here (just like most other camera manufacturers), not Focus Enhancements. The 4-pin FW plug should not be on anything else than cheapo amateur camcorders that are meant to fit in your palm. Period.
If you can fit serious audio connectors on a camcorder, you should be able to fit a sturdier 6-pin FW, right?
That said, I believe it all depends on how that flimsy thing was treated from the very start. Knowing this (learned the hard way on my first Sony VX-1000) we were very careful to protect it with velcro, care for a cable loop and instruct everyone handling that camera.
Until know we never lost connection (even using it on a crane!) when recording to the FireStore. Knocking on wood…

The good old PowerBook is by far the fastest method, I can only confirm that USB (2.0 !) is sloooooow.

I tested both (plus a few others) and we settled for Twixtor. IMHO, it’s the best.
Realviz comes second, just forget the rest. If you are considering HD, Twixtor is cheaper though, Realviz is charging you premium for anything larger than SD.
Plus, you get excellent response straight from the developers here in this forum, try to get that from Realviz (we own and use other programs of theirs).
That said, no motion vector approach at this time is as good as a true slo-mo shot. To get it as good as possible, you’ll need to dig into the set of tricks explained here in other recent threads, masking in particular. To own FieldsKit as well can be helpful if you are shooting interlaced. Try and generate a higher number of progressive images first, Twixtor llikes to get as much food as possible.

There’s a hack for 720p50, which works very well for me: Google for aulich-adamski (The site is in German, but the appropriate PDFs are in English).

I can only imagine that you are seeing a side effect of compression. After all, DVCProHD (are we talking about this format or are you using DV?) is an excellent, but still heavily compressed codec.
