June 4, 2007 at 3:05 amHow can there be a anything but a “lack” market interest for something that doesn’t exist yet. I would have to guess it was more like they were just not able to make it work. I had a lot of hope for this device and 160 GB is a lot of extra storgae for the bucks then 2 16 GB cards. Two bad, wish they made it.

June 4, 2007 at 3:15 amMe too. I’ve been counting the days until I could finally smash my !%@# firestores with a sledge hammer. Now my only hope is that Panasonic actually gets close to their “end of the year” delivery on the 32 GB cards. Personally, I’ll bet dinner that they will not be shipping by NAB 2008.

June 4, 2007 at 4:27 amSeeing as they’ve already shown a working 32GB card at the Spec-Comm P2HD clinic, I’d say that the odds are pretty good that they won’t be six months late with the 32GB coming out. They’ve already got at least one working and been demonstrated, and it’s not due to come on the market until November, so it seems a reasonably safe bet that they’ll hit their target.

Especially with the pressure from HoodMan on alternate P2 cards…

June 5, 2007 at 1:34 amBTW Rumpy, please don’t smash your Firestores with a sledgehammer! Just send them to me instead! I’ll even pay postage!

June 5, 2007 at 2:15 amHave you ever used one? I cannot believe anyone would want them. I guess we might put them up on eBay, but that doesn’t sound like nearly as much fun. I was really hoping the Cineporter would save us all, but oh well.
BTW, was I the only one at NAB 2006 that heard them say 16 gig cards “by the end of the year”? It’s June now and they still are not easy to come by. Come to think of it, back in ’05 weren’t the HVX’s them selves supposed to ship in the fall, I mean before Christmas, oops, I mean “by the end of the year”. I think it was late Feb or early March that we finally took delivery on one ordered in December.

June 5, 2007 at 5:12 amYes, I bought one of the first ones available over a year ago, refusing to support the overpriced P2 4/8 gig cards. I have now shot over 800 hours of footage on that one without a dropped frame or damaged clip. I bought my second one later in the year, have over 500 hours on it, and again no problems. I actually used mine during a film festival shootout where everyone else used the P2 workflow. I was the only DP who didn’t have dropped frames, missing or mangled clips upon import into FCP in the whole group. I guess it always mystifies me when people bash the FS-100 on this forum, as I haven’t had a single bad experience with either one that I own! So yes, send me your Firestores in lieu of destroying them! I’ll put them to good use!

Yes, they did say that, and it didn’t hit. But, as far as the overall P2 Roadmap goes they’re back on track; 16s were supposed to be out at the end of last year and 32s at the end of this year; they missed the 16 date but they’re going to hit the 32 date; they’ve said 32s will be out in November and they’ve already demonstrated a working 32GB card at a P2HD Clinic in Maryland. So the 16 was delayed some, but overall they’re looking to be on track.
