I can understand that now with more details – I think it best to throw in as much info as you can from the beginning. This helps get more options and faster answers.
Splitting or duplicating layers would have been my choice as well.

Screen shots would help- at this point it is unclear to me at least why you can’t use a Null to parent the two and rotate

  • You have many options and that’s the beauty of AE!
Let me add one more: ShapeShifter AE. Most 3d logos I do in AE are done using this plugin from Mettle. Best part is that you can keep the shapes 2d, animate them coming together, and then use the plugin to extrude and distort them in 3D. Using clever displacement maps you can model the pieces and you have a choice of using the flat colors or adding lights, reflections and complexity to the texture. There’s plenty of examples of what you can do with logos on the mettle site.

You could use Venetian Blinds to split the image in “fields” (2 layers) and then a vertical wipe to animate the lines in. You can then duplicate the layer and use another wipe to isolate each line … But that would still be a lot of work…. Maybe there’s a faster way…

You could create 3d extruded hills that ca be distorted in 3d space to create the cylindrical background you need using Free Form or FreeForm Pro.

one more option, depending on how your shots are, is to use Card Dance on a layer that has animated or people shot on chroma moving, arranged in a grid. You can set the number of columns and rows to match that grid. The right positioning and a bit of random movement will do the trick.

March 13, 2013 at 7:25 pm in reply to: Text on a wall

When it comes to text or simple graphics I suggest using the layer as a track matte for a duplicate of the wall and then color correcting the actual wall image to the level of darkness or color of the intended text or graphics. If you have several colors then isolate them and do a pass for each. One more thing you can do is to use the wall image, apply Levels, crush the levels to get just the scratchesirregularities in the wall highlighted and then use that as a way to substract from the text or image layers- like when painting on a wall leaves spots without paint behind where there are bumps or holes in the wall.

    Hope that makes sense.

  • Animate the move of your Emitter at a constant speed. Precomp – enable Time Remap and adjust timing to get the desired effect. You will need to tweak the gravity and particle birthrate and speed to get the effect you’re after.

  • Do not use “Final Result” in the View, rather “Intermediate Result”. You may need to add a Spill Suppression.

  • All of it can be done entirely in AE. You may need some 3d plugins like Zaxwerks Invigorator or Element 3d if you want the baseball to be a true 3d one. You can fake that using CC Sphere or FreeForm Pro / ShapeShifter AE, the latter being also useful for the logo/text in 3d.
