The example you provided is not just a simple effect of transition between photographs.
There is a lot of planning and production that went into this ad.
Each “photograph” is actually a series of photographs taken from the same spot with a zoom lens in small increments (from wide to narrow) or possibly with a camera on a dolly that is moved on a track keeping the same location of the vanishing point. All the shots are then composited with a morph transition to simulate the travel/zoom through one shot. Each shot is carefully staged to provide a transition point for the next shot and the zoom/travel happens at constant speed.

Are you previewing in E3D with Draft texture?
Do you get the same with the best render settings when you preview at full resolution from the AE comp window?

You can use FreeForm Pro or Free Form V2 for this or you can paste the shape from AI in a Shape layer and animate by setting keyframes and adjusting the shape.

If you have the latest AE you have C4D. There are quite a few tutorials on how to make a 3d globe:

The only way to achieve the 3d vector effect you’re after would be to use C4D or another 3D package. You may be able to use Element 3D with a custom Texture layer if you find the right earth model.

Roei pointed you in the right direction – FreeForm Pro or Free Form V2 are the plugins you’re looking for. You can distort in 3d space using mesh points and displace in 3d using displacement maps.

You could shoot your actor in full light on green screen and then use masks and Levels to simulate darker areas. Do a few tests and see how that works.

Also adding some real water drops sliding down from the area where the letters are revealed will add to the realism of the shot.
