You need to analyze your subject and see what changes shape and/or position in a significant way and what can be grouped together in one shape. Use the least amount possible but balance that out with making sure that what you group together and create one shape for does not require that you add or subtract spline points as you animate the masks.

Find a look alike (like it’s been suggested) and then study hard “face replacement” using Ae’s own tools or Mocha.

from your example I do not see why you can not use Premiere to do the transition – you can have a line in between transitioning clips, like in your example, with control over the color and thickness of it. Maybe I am missing something…

Rotoscoping is a slow painful process. I would not use the Roto brush though for your situation, rather masks with splines built on various parts of the character – one for the bulk of the body, and a few others for arms, legs…etc. Much lighter on processing and more effective in your case.

It looks like a combination of tracking animation (2 layers , one for each word, left one with right justification and the right one with left justification so movement will be towards the center; duplicate the setup and have the bottom layer still with the letters in the final position and the outer 2 or 3 letters masked out. The top layers should have tracking animated and a mask that cuts out the inner letters that are visible from the still bottom layers- this will allow you to create the settling in of the outer letters), opacity with animated mask and a lens distortion effect animated on top.

You could go both ways (continuous shoothing with DSLR or time effects over normal footage)
For the time effects I would try Posterize Time ( play with 5fps or even 1 fps), then precompose and enable and play with Time Remapping on the precomp.Tudor \”Ted\” Jelescu

April 1, 2017 at 12:31 pm in reply to: Color Grading and Correction VFX in AE or Premiere?I always like to export my VFX shots and do the grading for the whole edit in whatever program I will use to grade later.
Export in whatever fits your workflow: ProRes, DnXHD. DPX…

March 30, 2017 at 12:02 pm in reply to: Creating a “movement map” still image from footage. You could track parts of the body (hands, head…) then animate shapes on top using the track data, precompose and use Echo or another Time plugin to create the areas of movement.
