Now this might just be me, but if you taped the camera on the M16, that means the gun will always be in the same place in the frame and everything else moves. If that is so, why would you need to track the M16? And getting a flash light on should be easy- all you need is a still of a flashlight which you can take with any digital camera. Then add the light and Lux. However, this will not create shadows moving on the objects in your frame- so re-shoot with a powerful light attached to your M16, and add light and lux in post for beam.

I think you may be able to use Zaxwerks Serpentine on this. I know it tracks a layer, so if your layer is the picture, scale the Serpentine to match the pict size and play with opacity/transfer modes.

    Zaxwers Serpentine- true 3d ribbons/lines
Also, you could go the way Bret recommended, but use Freeform to distort in 3d space.

I do not think you should trust the levels in AE- it’s not an app meant for audio. Fix and check your audio in Premiere, FCP or any other editing program.

  • Seems like you will have one long stripe “20 output of 1024×768, that is 20480×768. ” In this situation I would set up a 1024×768 comp. Make 20 layers comp size, each with a different color. Offset each layer with 1024 pixels on the x axis from the previous one- this way you will get the 20480 pixel width. Set up 20 cameras, so that each “sees” one layer full frame only. Work your animation jumping from camera to camera. Render out each camera- this way you’ll get 20 1024×768 clips that will run from your video server on 20 screens and that will form one wide animation. Of course, previewing the whole thing will not be easy, but since you said you have simple animations this may work.

  • I’ve been using the Knoll Lens Flare plugin in it’s various forms since beta 1.0 and I have had no reason to look for something else. From what I have read about Optical Flare it seems to be a great flare plugin as well, but it did not give me a reason to change from Knoll.

If the text is done in AE, all you need to do after you set your mask is to animate the text position (animate properties) and not the layer (of the text). Another way is if you animate the text, precomp the layer and then set your mask.

  • If you render a sequence of stills- yes, there is. Render the missing frames and put them in the same folder with the previously rendered frames.
If you have a .mov, .avi or the like, you could import the already rendered part into your project, place it over the comp in it’s place and re-render, saving time for the already rendered part- BUT, you’ll loose quality this way, so ….

If you can re-shoot the woman sleeping without a blanket ( and this can even be a still)then you can roto the blanket to leave it at full opacity and do a 50% of the “spirit” getting up while moving the blanket. This way you’ll have the blanket reveal the sleeping woman’s body underneath.

May 18, 2010 at 1:30 pm in reply to: How to reduce huge H.264’s?

If you’re trying to use AE to render out final H264 compression, don’t. AE is not really meant for that- Adobe Media Encoder would be what you need.
