You can also use CC Flo Motion, it will give you a decent distortion and you can apply that on the footage comped on top of itself with a feathered mask cut around the heart… but that would still give you a 2d distortion.
    Here’s what I recommend for a 3d distortion:
Create the wall in PSD. Paint a wall plate (with the heart on in, undistorted by the perspective) apply Free Form and then set it up in 3d space to match the perspective of the wall in the shot using the controls in Free Form and not the layer controls (do not make the layer a 3d layer). Paint then a displacement map for the heart- it can be a simple oval that has a radial gradient from white in the center to black at the edges and matches the approximate shape of the heart. Then you can displace in 3d space.
Here’s a tutorial that may give you a better idea of what I am talking about:

  • My approach on a similar project (using drawings that were scanned and then re-drawn in AI) was to break the music video in separate setups for shots and think on transitions. For example, when the camera follows the river coming down over the waterfall and you have a full frame of the water only, that would be a good seamless transition point in between two scenes.

  • Your idea of precomping the footage is good. Also, when you play with time remap, make sure that you have heads and tails to your clip and those frames contain image information, otherwise you will get strange artifacts. Exporting again to another codec like Cory suggested my be best though.

  • It would help if you would post a link to the tutorial you’re referring to.

Besides what Dave already said, I would ad that my best experience with encoding for web is to render from AE losless (animation codec) then compress in Adobe Media Encoder .flv or .f4v

If you set your buildings in 3d space in a large circle, link them to a null in the center and then rotate them on the x axis towards the camera you can create a loop (of course the more you want the street to seem flat the bigger the circle and a larger amount of buildings). For the street use a 3d object – PSD 3d layer or Zaxwerks invigorator, textured cilinder.

Besides all the great links Michael posted, you may want to look into Particle Illusion- great fire presets.

  • My first advice: do it all in AE, there’s nothing that you can do in Flash that AE will not do. CS5 can even export Flash projects.
If you still want to animate in Flash and then bring it in AE, make sure that you use the same frame rate.

  • AE can do this type of animation. Most elements are most likely vector graphics done in AI then animated in AE. For some 3d objects that “grow” in curves, something like 3D Serpentine can be used.

If you have CS5 Roto Brush may help you create the matte Olin was talking about
