Quick work around:
Set the layer on which the shadow are cast (the background/floor) to be a solid color that you can then key out. Make the size big enough to fill the frame at all times. Make sure that in Material Options the “Accepts Lights” is off. This way you will get a solid color with no gradients. Precomp and Key out the color.
My question is why don’t you composite the gfx over the footage in AE and then render out the final – no editing software will do as good of a compositing job as a compositing software package.Tudor “Ted” Jelescu

If I understand you correctly, what you are looking for has a lot to do with editing. The rapid transitions in commercials or music video have a lot to do with how the clips are cut to link motion with sound and color. Rhythm, sound fx and matching motion are used to cut in between shots and tell a story in a few frames. Of course there are some VFX- most times camera shakes, lens flares, flashes of light, color grading and roto. All pretty basic effects, but used in an inventive way to accentuate the “feeling” of the cut. If that’s what you’re after, my advice is to do a lot of frame by frame analysis of the works you like and then try to decompose what’s in there and reconstruct it in AE yourself.

You may want to check 3D Serpentine from Zaxwerks. Combined with Mesh Warp or puppet tool it may prove useful.

AE allows you to display waveform and you have the Puppet Tool. Combine these two and you may achieve what you want.
