If your text is a 2d layer, animated and with roughen edges applied, then if you pre comp and turn on the 3d for the pre comp layer the roughen edges will not move- just did a test.

How does the text animate on? if it does not move- it fades in one letter at a time, then just animate and apply the roughen edges in a comp and then position that comp in 3d space. The edges will not move

Strange – 4 color gradient in a 16 bit comp should give you smooth gradients. It may be the way your display shows it- but then you mentioned that a PSD gradient looks fine. Try rendering out a few frames and look at it in a player to see how that looks.

What version of AE, what system, what codecs used for video?
Do you have the latest update for AE?
Did you reboot your machine?Tudor “Ted” Jelescu

January 30, 2011 at 8:43 am in reply to: CC Particle World Not Passing In Front of 3D ObjectsAs far as I remember (been using Particular for most of my particle needs) CC Particle World and CC Sphere are meant to be applied to 2d layers. For Particular in order to interact with the 3d layers, the layer that has the plugin applied to it needs to be on top of all 3d layers- not sure if that is the same with CC Particle world.
One work around is to “sandwich” the planet (CC Sphere) layer in between two comet layers, cut a mask to reveal on the top layer the part of the comet that goes in front, copy the mask, paste it on the bottom layer and invert it.Tudor “Ted” Jelescu

January 30, 2011 at 8:35 am in reply to: Can’t figure out how remove unwanted objects in ocean footageAll good advice from Olin, here’s a few more tips:
It’s not going to be easy, so don’t expect a quick fix.
If the camera is a bit shaky, like a hand held pan or tilt that is not perfect, then stabilize your footage before applying effects. After you apply effects, ad the shake back. If the camera goes nuts, you may want to try using SynthEyes or Boujou for tracking.
For roto- Mocha does a great job- much faster than doing it by hand and there’s a lot of info out there and tutorials on this.
My approach would be the same as Olin’s- create clean plates in PSD and comp them back using tracking data and adding grain.Tudor “Ted” Jelescu

Shooting high frame rate footage is – like Dave mentioned earlier- so that you can have crystal clear slow motion. Also it is recommended when you want speed changes that go from real fast to slow motion (camera moves or action in the shot). Besides setting up the frame rate of the project you are working in AE at the delivery standard (24, 25, 29.97 and so on) you may want to now the length of the shot (how many seconds @1000fps). This will allow you to figure out the time stretch percentage you need to apply to get real time, or where to move your key frames for time remapping to get that (which is what I recommend doing). From here you can start playing with speed changes.

Besides what Cory recommended , I would ad this: use the r3d files directly in AE and not the converted ones, there’s no need for that extra step.
