Yeah, that’s kind of some of what I saw. For example, if the LaCie was on and mounted, and then I turned on the camera and then launched FCP, the wheel just spun and spun and spun as if FCP was launching (with the FCP box where it tells you it’s finding the plugins and whatnot). As SOON AS I turned the camera off, FCP finished launching. I don’t like this drive. I’m taking it back to the apple store. I’m spending more money to buy something better. I don’t have time to deal with this!

Yeah, I agree. It sounds like interlacing. If you watch it on a television, you won’t see the interlacing and everything will look good. You didn’t mention your export settings, though.

I tried restarting the computer with different configurations. All plugged in, some plugged in, none plugged in. Some on, all on, none on.

I haven’t tried reformatting the hard drive yet. I put in an email to their customer service. I’ll see what they say. I hate to reformat now because I just transferred about 200GB onto the disk thinking everything was oakily doakily.

    thanks for everyone’s quick response.

This one is good and easy since I can stay in one application. Thank you. It’s only draw back is making a dashed line along a path. Still doable with masks, but not quite as pretty as in illustrator.

If you can afford Apple Shake, it does this with amazing results.

Try unchecking Frame Blending. that takes the softness away. Or you can use AE if you have it. It does a nice job of interpolating the intermediate frames similar to how twixtor does (and I guess realviz).

Sounds like you are exporting from FCP. Try this. I prefer this one myself: Export a FCP Quicktime File out of FCP (the first export option). Make the movies self-contained. You can even batch export the sequences if you have many. Once they are exported, create a batch list in compressor of the files to compress and what settings, etc. Set it and forget it.

November 17, 2006 at 11:12 pm in reply to: AE Masking/roto Questions

I have a similar qustion regarding masks and trakers. I’ve got 3 layers. Bottom layer is a video clip with a moving billboard. next layer is a motion graphics that is corner pinned to follow the tracking points of the billboard. So far so good. Here’s the catch. In front of the billboard are two parked cars the partially obstruct the billboard. So, I have created a 3rd layer, on top of the others, that is a duplicate of the bottom layer. I create a mask around the cars so that the cars now are in front of the billboard. Awesome. Ok, but as the images moves, the masks have to move (because the cars and the billboard have all moved.

Is there a way to have the MASK move with the tracking points? I can make the top layer move with the tracking points no problem. But that move the whole clip, not JUST THE MASK. Is there a way to do this?

October 30, 2006 at 5:38 pm in reply to: Time code window burn FCP5

200-300 clips!? what kind of customer is this? who is the editor? the customer? You might as well just give them the tape. Or if they have to files, just give them the files. The clips have a time code in a sense. if a clip is 60 seconds, they can tell you the clip name and the from :33 – :45 as the time code.

    OR,

drag all the clips at once into one timeline. Then, apply the filter to all of them at once. I believe the filter can spit out the reel, clip name, and time automatically. Then export the timeline into compressor.
