export quality
Posted by Jonjon_jho on March 13, 2007 at 2:51 amIm exporting some video clips and credits to a Quicktime movie. At first the quality on everything was absolutely horrible. I figured out how to fix the credits, but the video clips come out terrible. The frames are, well, basically diced up into lines. Anything I can try to get a clean solid picture??
Thanks a million.

March 13, 2007 at 3:14 amSounds like interlacing, which is normal. If your end result is DVD then you will be fine because TV’s are interlaced unlike your computer monitor. If you are going for computer playback, like the web then de-interlace the video.

March 13, 2007 at 3:20 amYeah, I agree. It sounds like interlacing. If you watch it on a television, you won’t see the interlacing and everything will look good. You didn’t mention your export settings, though.

March 13, 2007 at 9:13 pmIve exported as a quicktime conversion, with compression set to none, and quality at best. Ive burned a few different clips to DVD as tests and the interlacing still appeared on the tv. should I still try de-interlacing? and how exactly do I do that.

March 14, 2007 at 3:00 amIf you are exporting out for web use, then you’ll want some sort of compression. Use H.264 or something else.
Export Quicktime Conversion
at the bottom, click OPTIONS.
click SETTINGS.
pick a compression setting
OK
click SIZE
select DEINTERLACE VIDEO SOURCE.
then OK.See if that works for you.

March 14, 2007 at 3:53 amits actually not for web use, its a high school project. im in a film class and im planning to go to a film school for college. im going to use it on DVD for a portfolio.
someone said something about interlacing. if the video is cut into lines on the DVD do I need to interlace it, or de-interlace it. and how do i get to the interlacing settings in FCP?

March 15, 2007 at 1:34 amYou need to do a search on what interlacing is. Regular TV’s show interlaced images. Computer screen show progressive images. So ultimately, if you show something on a regular tv, then it’s interlaced.
To export your video, don’t do EXPORT QUICKTIME CONVERION. Just export QUICKTIME MOVIE. Once it’s exported, open iDVD and then drag your movie into iDVD.
The bottom line is you shouldn’t have to be worrying about interlacing or not. Just shoot the video. Edit it. And export to a DVD.
Read the help section.
