Last I heard, the Io is not officially supported with OS 10.4 Tiger yet. It will be when the new drivers are released. They should be out around the time the new FCP is shipping. Having said that, the Io does appear to work fine under Tiger with the current drivers. I’ve only done limited testing, so I recommend to everyone to proceed with caution or wait until the officially supported drivers are released.

Jeremy, try Curtis’s solution. You might also try deleting the Safari cache (under the Safari pull down menu). Safari does work fine with Creative Cow, I’ve used it daily for posting and browsing the Cow for the last couple of years. I’m using it right now ;-P

This apparently is normal behavior for the 10.4. With previous versions of OS X, whenever the system had to delete data like Mail attachments, the iChat cache, or some plists, it would just do it behind the scenes. Currently, with Tiger, this has changed, the deleted files are placed in the Recovered Files folder. On the next reboot you’ll see them, giving you one chance to recover them, if needed.
In a way it’s a built-in emergency backup method for recently used documents or ones you didn’t want the system to delete without warning. It might be useful after a crash

Carbon Copy works great. I always keep a recent backup of my startup drive using it. I like to install two identical internal hard drives on each of my Mac’s with the second being an up-to-date clone of the first. That way I can install new system and application updates without fear, It’s really nice knowing I can clone back to the working system I had before the updates (or just boot from the second drive). An external backup drive can work as well.

The Io’s currently will allow you to monitor Motion, After Effects and Combustion (soon Apple’s new sound application – Soundtrack Pro). DVDSP is not supported. There is some major tech issue that has prevented AJA/Apple from supporting DVDSP thus far (not sure of the details). With “Core” audio and video now in OS X Tiger, I’d expect/hope to see more applications supported as new versions are released.

Wow, that’s good news that everything is working fine so far for you. Its completely opposite of what multiple sources told me at the AJA booth during NAB. Basically, they all said the current Io was not compatible with Tiger and that we shouldn’t update the OS until the new Io drivers are released (sometime in May). I was also told the Io would need the new drivers for FCP 5. I should have followed up and inquired about what specific problems they were having when using current Io with Tiger and FCP 5.

Sounds like Expose to me. Go to your OS X Preferences > Expose and change the keyboard section to nothing or to keys that won’t give you problems. Expose is very handy by the way. I map mine to either my mouse buttons or to the corners of my screen.

for them, it will output as well. “Apple writes the drivers for the Io, but not for the kona cards – AJA does that themselves. Its my understanding that Shake 4 will be supported with the new Io drivers due out sometime in May. Its possible with Tiger’s core audio and video that we’ll see a lot more applications supported as well in the near future.

Mitch, I think AJA was saying that the Io would be compatible with FCP 5 and Tiger when FCP ships sometime in May. I spoke with several senior people at AJA and a few people at a Apple that confirmed to me that this was the plan. They said they want to make available the new drivers as close to the release of FCP 5 as possible. There might be a small delay in the release of the updated Io drivers, but they should be available around the same time as FCP 5.
What we have to remember, and its easy to forget, is that Apple controls the driver releases for the Io. AJA has input, but does not write them or control their releases. The control panel app is a different story, but lets let that one go for now
