IO and Tiger
Posted by Jonathan Miller on May 18, 2005 at 6:27 pmJust installed 10.4 then updated to 10.4.1. Launched FCPHD and the IO wasn’t recognised. Called my rep, he told me to try reinstalling the driver (v1.3.1 still as of today) and rebooted. Works like a charm. Problem solved, at least in my case.
Good luck!

May 18, 2005 at 8:28 pmLast I heard, the Io is not officially supported with OS 10.4 Tiger yet. It will be when the new drivers are released. They should be out around the time the new FCP is shipping. Having said that, the Io does appear to work fine under Tiger with the current drivers. I’ve only done limited testing, so I recommend to everyone to proceed with caution or wait until the officially supported drivers are released.

May 19, 2005 at 6:02 pmI’m certainly not getting my hopes up about the new driver. We’ve all heard about new drivers and new software (i.e. Control Panel) for a VERY long time. Promises shouldn’t be made by a company unless they KNOW they can deliver on time. Thier press release said the new driver would be ready when FCP 5 started shipping. FCP is ALREADY shipping, so where is the new driver? It’s happening again…
PS. I’m not trying to slam AJA, I love thier products…it’s just frustrating, that’s all.

May 19, 2005 at 7:11 pmListen I have to agree…believe me, I have nothing but great things to say about AJA and their products. I posted something a few days ago stating my software was on its way, asking if the driver is going to be available likewise. Somebody responded and said’ sit back, make money and forget the new driver’.
Well-
The point is, the software is here and the driver is not. Not a big deal I guess…my stuff is working fine. We’ll just have to wait it out. It sounds like the new features will be worth the wait.

May 19, 2005 at 8:04 pmIf I’m not mistaken, the drivers for the io are written by apple. I bet AJA is waiting with baited breath just like all of you guys. Don’t blame AJA, blame apple.
The future is still in the future…for now.

I read that as well, perhaps in a previous post from Aja.
Let me weigh in on the promised software issues as well. While I’m disappointed in the delays, I’m not disappointed in Aja’s product and tech support. I’ve e-mailed them with issues on three occasions and their response has always been swift and helpful.

May 20, 2005 at 3:34 pmWatch out for missing Deck control and funky capture problems with the IO and FCP 5 on Tiger 4.1, new drivers should be on the way next week to fix things up.

May 20, 2005 at 4:28 pmHi-
The current 1.3.1 Io driver is not recommended for FCP 5 and Tiger. A new 2.0 driver is being released in the next few days that offers FCP 5 and Tiger compatibility, plus 23.98 frame rate support, reduced latency, and more.
Please contact us with any questions. We will post here when the new driver is ready for download at our website.
Thank you,

This is the case. Apple writes the drivers for the Io and controls their release dates. Fortunately, Apple works very closely with AJA in developing and testing the Io software updates
