Try running one of the cache cleaning applications like: Cache Out https://www.versiontracker.com/dyn/moreinfo/macosx/14850 or you can use Cocktail which does even more: https://www.versiontracker.com/dyn/moreinfo/macosx/26124
Also, delete preferences & caches for FCP and DVDSP. Double check you have 15 – 20% of empty hard drive space. If nothing else, you can try the Archive and Install option from your OS X installer disks. Be sure to select the options to save your applications and files. Since you are running older versions of FCP and other applications, its also possible you updated one piece of software or hardware and now it is not compatible with those software versions or older OS.

This is the case. Apple writes the drivers for the Io and controls their release dates. Fortunately, Apple works very closely with AJA in developing and testing the Io software updates

“I recommend DiskWarrior for repairing your drives. Just make sure you use the latest version 3.0.3 when using Tiger. Its inexpensive and does a better job of repairing them than Disk Utility.

Good point MR V, although it does not effect you backing up your current system to a bootable drive before upgrading to Tiger. I believe Retrospect has been updated for Tiger (It’s probably the oldest and has always been one of the best backup solutions for the Mac). It would be a good, but more expensive, alternative. You can also just use Apple’s built-in Disk Utility to clone/restore a drive.

The best plugins are the ones that do whatever it is that you do (roto, color, 3D, lighting, morphing, distortion, etc). What’s best varies depending on your needs and your style. I would look at all of them and see what appeals to you and fits your situation best. If you can make it to one of the trade shows, where you can see them and talk with some of the developers, even better. For a good general workhorse package of plugins, I’m fond of the Boris continuum set. However, there are so many others that are just as good or better, that its hard to resist making a long list of them all. I’ll say it again: it depends on your needs and your style

You can’t partition a disk without losing the info already on it. However, you don’t need to. In Carbon Copy Cloner’s preferences there is a couple of options under the “Synchronize Source” section that will help. Check the box for “Sync source to target” and uncheck the box for “Delete items not on source.” Also, check the box for “Make bootable.”
It’s a good idea to attempt to startup off of the cloned drive before upgrading the main – just incase there is some problem. Be sure to repair your startup drive and permissions before cloning as well.
