Have you tried deleting the iTunes preference files? Move these two files to your trash can (don’t delete yet) and see if the problem is solved: com.apple.iTunes.helper.plist and com.apple.iTunes.plist. You can find them in your Home Folder > Library > Preferences. If iTunes works fine afterwards you can delete the files (you may need to change some of your iTunes preference settings back to your liking, as they may have been reset to defaults).
Also, since you did install/update software it is a good idea to repair your permissions using Disk Utility.

Hi Jeff,
I work mainly uncompressed, but the DVCPro 50 codec is a nice alternative. I know many people use it as their main capture codec. I’ve never had much luck with P-JPEG on FCP systems, so it wouldn’t be my choice (I haven’t tried it in some time though). When sending hi-quality video to PC’s (very rare for me), I usually go with the BlackMagic Codec’s. They can download the PC version of the codec’s from BlackMagic.

Just do a search for SATA on all of the Cow FCP forums for the last few months (Final Cut, Kona, AJA Io, BlackMagic. You should get lots of good ideas for cost effect (and fast) RAID solutions (both internal and external). I prefer external solutions myself. The downside with these solutions, compared to say an Xserve RAID, is the lack of redundancy. If one drive fails you would likely loose everything. However, you can’t argue with the value for the price. Do the research and come to your own conclusions.

I would move all your footage offline (in the trash) and do a batch capture of it all again with the Betacam 525 preset. Hopefully, you used reel names and have good time code on your source tapes. It’ll be pretty quick if you do.

If you are going out to any digital tape format (including Digibeta) you don’t add IRE/Setup (7.5). That is only for analog. Use your SDI out to the Digibeta deck. If in the future you need to go to Beta SP or another analog tape format, then you can use your analog outputs (component) and the Io will add the 7.5 setup for you (check the Io’s control panel application to verify it is set correctly to do that). Scopes are always a good idea.
If you still feel you need more verification of what I’m saying (don’t blame you). Do a search for something like “7.5 Digi” on the FCP, AJA Io, AJA Kona, and Decklink forums. Seach back for the last 2 or 3 years. You should get a ton of “hits.”

Use Betacam 525. SMPTE N10 is not used by Sony or Panasonic. I’ve never had a use for it.

You should be working with black as 0 in FCP. If you are finishing to a digital format, then zero is where it should be. If you finish to Beta SP or another analog format, you’re Io will add the 7.5 setup on output automatically (you don’t need to do anything – assuming you’re in the USA).
